Chael Sonnen outlines Conor McGregor's comeback attempts: 'He loves to feint power'

As far as former UFC star, Chael Sonnen is concerned, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor may be serious regarding his impending return to action, however, is falsely portraying that he pulling the strings when he returns — rather than promotional brass.

McGregor, a former undisputed featherweight champion and lightweight gold holder, was slated to headline UFC 303 in a three-year-plus hiatus snapping return to the Octagon back in June, taking on Michael Chandler in a return to the welterweight limit for the Dublin striker.

‘"He was blowing me up’: Dana White Changes Tone on Conor McGregor, 2024 fight Possible

Out of action since UFC 264, Conor McGregor most recently took on common-foe, Dustin Poirier in Las Vegas, Nevada — fracturing his left tibia and fibula in an opening round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss as the duo shared the Octagon in a trilogy rubber match.

And forced from a welterweight fight with Chandler earlier this summer due to injury, McGregor fractured a toe on the same foot as his prior leg injury — ruling him out from a comeback.

Chael Sonnen claims Conor McGregor may not fight this year

Targeting a potential December return to action in the main event of UFC 310, McGregor may not get his way according to Sonnen, who says a potential return in January at a pay-per-view event in California may be on the cards as well.

“I’m hearing the organization would like him (Conor McGregor) to fight in California in January, I can’t confirm that for you but I would like to say this one thing Daniel (Cormier), as long-winded as I’m being,” Chael Sonnen said on Good Guy/Bad Guy. “I believe him. I believe that he wants to fight. I believe that he is going behind the scenes, see he loves to feint power — he loves to let people know it’s all my decision.”

“I believe he has humbled himself to say, ‘I need the organization to sign off on this, I’m willing to go,’” Chael Sonnen explained. “And that’s not quite how the story is being told. The story being told that Conor is dangling this, I don’t think so and if you remember all the efforts that he went through just to get on the docket on June 29., he’s doing the same things to get on the docket in December. At a minimum, I do believe he is sincere that he still wants to be on the boys.”

Kevin Lee Andrew Tate

Former top-ranked UFC fighter has called out Andrew Tate for having a paper title when it comes to combat sports. Andrew Tate, known for being an internet influencer and having a stint on reality TV, once had a brief career in kickboxing.

Kevin Lee questions Andrew Tate’s Kickboxing

“The Motown Phenom” Kevin Lee was a standout collegiate wrestler before transitioning to MMA. In the UFC he had solid wins against opponents such as Edson Barboza, Michael Chiesa, and Francisco Trinaldo. He also had wars in the competitive lightweight division against the likes of Tony Ferguson, Rafael dos Anjos, and Charles Oliveira. But Lee might be best known for his stunning head-kick knockout against Gregor Gillespie.

On X, formerly Twitter, the athlete called out Andrew Tate:

“How tf did Andrew Tate convince people that he’s a world champion??”

Andrew Tate just had his home raided in Romania involving charges of human trafficking and rape, involving minors. He is awaiting trial.

Andrew Tate Kickboxing Career

Tate is best known for being on Big Brother and being an internet personality as his kickboxing career was unremarkable. Andrew Tate competed in full-contact style kickboxing which is a modified version of kickboxing that allows for fewer kicks. No major organizations use full-contact kickboxing rules, K-1, GLORY, RISE, and ONE Championship have never used the full-contact rules and it is not popular. Additionally, full-contact style kickboxing is not competitive or deep. It has close to no competitors.

Tate held titles in full-contact style kickboxing, again this is not standard kickboxing, under ISKA and Enfusion. Enfusion is a builder organization that helps funnel regional talent into the bigger leagues, such as GLORY. K-1, GLORY, ONE, and RISE are all considered major kickboxing titles, ISKA and Enfusion are not top-line championships.

Andrew Tate

Any notable kickboxer throughout history including Ernesto Hoost, Badr Hari, Buakaw Banchamek, Alex Pereira, Alistair Overeem, Peter Aerts, and others, did not compete in full-contact style kickboxing. They also competed in major organizations such as K-1 or GLORY, not Enfusion or ISKA. In summary, Kevin Lee has a point.

Below is K-1 kickboxing with standard rules, this is NOT a full-contact match.

Floyd Mayweather on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson: ‘He can continue to steal money’

Former multiple time and weight world champion, Floyd Mayweather has praised Jake Paul’s entrepreneurial skills to lure former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson into a November boxing match – claiming the Ohio native is simply “stealing” money.

Paul, an outspoken professional boxer and social media influencer, turned in his tenth professional victory earlier this year against UFC alum turned BKFC (Bare Knuckle FIghting Championship) star, Mike Perry – stopping the Flint native with a stunning sixth round knockout win in Tampa, Florida.

And now booked once more to take on former heavyweight world champion, Tyson in a much-scrutinized professional boxing match in November, Paul’s skills to apparently “steal” money from fans and promoters is second to none.

Floyd Mayweather talks Jake Paul’s boxing career

“What he’s (Jake Paul) doing is kinda cool,” Floyd Mayweather told Treasure Hustle. “If he can continue to steal money and they match him the way they match him, I can’t knock his hustle.”

“If they can match him the way that they have been, more power to him,” Floyd Mayweather explained. “

Despite his inactivity and time away from the squared circle, Tyson predicted earlier this week how he would land a vicious and definitive win over Paul when they share the boxing ring before the end of the year in ‘The Lone Star State’.

“Very painfully,” Mike Tyson warned Jake Paul during their press conference overnight in New York. “Be in shape. Be in good shape because your health depends on it.”

“I think he’s (Mike Tyson) a mitt warrior,” Jake Paul replied. “The Instagram videos are cute but we’ll see what happens in the ring on November 15. At the end of the day, we’ll see if he’s still got it.”

“Listen, as soon as I catch this guy, he’s going to be running around,” Mike Tyson responded. “As soon as I catch this guy, it’s going to be totally over. He’s going to run like a thief.”

Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III: ‘It's Personal’, aiming for KO finish in bad blood rematch

Seeing his first exhibition bout with John Gotti III end in a disqualification due to an alleged case of excessive trash talking in June of last year, former world champion boxing star, Floyd Mayweather confirms plans to KO his rival in definitive fashion in their rematch in Mexico this weekend.

Mayweather, who ended his professional boxing career back in 2017 following a stunning fiftieth professional win, most recently took on former two-weight UFC star, Conor McGregor, stopping the Dubliner with a punishing eventual tenth round knockout win.

Sharing the squared circle with Rockville Center, Gotti III in the summer of last year, Mayweather’s latest lucrative exhibition boxing venture ended in controversial circumstances – with the duo trash talking their way to an official disqualification result.

John Gotti III wants to KO rival Floyd Mayweather in personal rematch

However, taking on Michigan megastar, Mayweather this weekend in Mexico City in an exhibition rematch, Gotti III revealed plans to end his “personal” fight series with the former with a blistering knockout win.

floyd

“I know this is going to be a very tough fight,” John Gotti III told Big Fight Weekend. “I know there’s a lot of bad blood and I know man-to-man, Floyd (Mayweather) wants to settle this as do I. Forget all the boxing and all that other stuff. It’s between me and him. It’s personal.”

gotti

“In the ring, it’s personal,” John Gotti III explained. “Outside the ring, I wish him one hundred years of health and happiness. But how would I feel to knock him out? I’d feel great. He’s just an opponent now, he’s just a face. If he comes in the way he came in the first fight, he’s going to get caught. He was very lax and lazy. If he comes in – there was a lot of mistakes he made as well, he’s going to get caught.”

Dana White Confident Jon Jon vs. Tom Aspinall Will Happen: "I think he does it."

Dana White is still pointing the finger at Francis Ngannou.

Nearly two years removed from his unceremonious UFC exit, Ngannou is still taking flack from the UFC CEO despite White claiming that he has zero animosity toward the former heavyweight champion. Following Tuesday’s episode of DWCS, White disputed the longstanding belief that Jon Jones should carry any of the blame for his fight with Ngannou never coming to fruition.

Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones

Instead, White once again put it all on Ngannou and expressed confidence that they won’t run into a similar issue when they eventually go to book a fight between Jones and current interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

“I have zero animosity towards Francis,” White said. “Francis was out of my world a long time ago. [Sean Shelby] and Mick [Maynard] are another story. It’s a long story. [Shelby] did everything he could in his power to make Jon Jones vs. Francis. The fight did not happen and let me tell you what, it wasn’t because of Jon Jones.

“So Jon is a very unique individual to deal with. Jon Jones will fight everybody. Jon Jones was absolutely — he wanted Francis! You saw what happened with Ciryl Gane. He will tell you like he told us that he would do the same thing to Francis Ngannou. He wanted that fight so bad.

“And for anybody who thinks — I know the whole internet, ‘Oh Jon Jones!’ that I’m up Jon Jones’s ass, these are f*cking facts. Facts. And since everybody has been such douchebags about this, I’m coming out with a nice little punch in the face for all you f*ckers that think Jon Jones isn’t the greatest of all time.

“Dislike him, whatever your beef is with Jon Jones, knock yourself out. There’s no way in hell that Jon Jones doesn’t want to fight Aspinall. That I guarantee you” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Dana White sees Jon Jones sticking around to find Tom Aspinall

A few months after Ngannou’s exit, Jones emerged from a three-year-long layoff to claim the vacant heavyweight title with a quick two-minute submission victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. He was supposed to follow up that performance with a title defense against two-time champion Stipe Miocic nine months later, but a pectoral injury forced him to bow out of the bout.

In response, the promotion introduced an interim belt at UFC 295 won by Tom Aspinall following a stunning first-round KO of Sergei Pavlovich.

Tom Aspinall KO Pavlovich

Aspinall has since defended the temporary title and trolled Jones relentlessly in hopes of securing a unification clash with the undisputed champ. Unfortunately, neither Jones nor the UFC have taken the bait, instead opting to rebook Jones’ bout with Miocic which is rumored to go down this November at MSG.

Jones has regularly teased retirement once his business with Miocic is in the books, but White is of the belief that ‘Bones’ will stick around long enough to test himself against the man many are calling the best heavyweight in the world.

Jon Jones

“Jon Jones is doing Jon Jones right now,” White said. “That’s what he does. There is nobody that we’ve ever dealt with, when I tell you is not afraid to fight anybody. It’s Jon Jones… I believe Jon Jones-Aspinall happens if he beats Stipe…”

“We’ll do everything we can to make that fight happen… What fights don’t we make? Other than the Francis thing, what fights don’t we make? You can’t make people fight and we couldn’t make Francis fight. But every other fight we’ve made. We’ve dealt with guys like Brock Lesnar. Think of the biggest stars that have ever been in the sport. We’ve always made the fights.”

Dana White Justifies Alex Pereira vs Khalil Rountree: "Makes a lot of sense"

UFC CEO, Dana White has responded to criticizm of a booked headliner between champion, Alex Pereira and challenger, Khalil Rountree later this year – claiming the pairing “makes a lot of sense” – before challenging Magomed Ankalaev to ‘earn’ a shot at the divisional crown.

Pereira, the incumbent undisputed light heavyweight titleholder and a former middleweight gold holder, is slated to return in two months time at UFC 307, headlining the promotion’s return to Salt Lake City in a title showdown with the surging, Rountree.

24172796822

Most recently featuring in the main event of UFC 303 at the end of June, Sao Paulo finisher, Alex Pereira landed a stunning second round high-kick knockout win over former champion, Jiri Prochazka – felling the Czech Republic native for the second time since their first meeting last November.

khalil

As for Rountree, The Ultimate Fighter finalist has been embroiled in an anti-doping violation since he felled former title challenger, Anthony Smith with a third round knockout back in December, however, is set to take on Alex Pereira in his premiere title tilt in the organization.

Dana White defends Alex Pereira – Khalil Rountree booking

And amid scrutiny from former title chaser, Ankalaev – who features just two weeks after Pereira’s return at UFC 308 as he battles Aleksandar Rakic, the Russian has been challenged by White to earn his own title fight next.

pereira walk

“He (Magomed Ankalaev) didn’t get skipped over, he’s got a fight coming up,” Dana White said following the Contender Series overnight. “We were laying the fights out now, Ankalaev’s got a fight lined up, go in there, do your thing, look great, obviously you’re next.”

“We had a to make this fight card and as you go down the line you start looking at it, it’s clear (Khalil) Rountree makes a lot of sense and you said it yourself, ‘No way in hell that’s not a fun one.’” Dana White continued. “Timing is everything.”

Israel Adesanya barrels down P4P rankings following submission loss at UFC 305

Following his submission defeat to middleweight champion, Dricus du Plessis over the course of the weekend at UFC 305, former two-time titleholder, Israel Adesanya may remain the number two ranked challenger, however, has slumped down the pound-for-pound pile.

Adesanya, a former two-time middleweight gold holder, headlined UFC 305 over the course of last weekend, suffered his second consecutive defeat since September of last year – following a prior dominant title fight loss to Sean Strickland in Sydney last annum.

And meeting South African star, du Plessis ‘Downunder’ last weekend in the main event of UFC 305, Adesanya, who found himself on the wrong side of judge’s scorecards during the fourth round, was submitted in the first of two championship frames, with a taut rear-naked choke.

Following the defeat, however, Adesanya remains just behind the previously mentioned, Strickland in the middleweight listings, as the number two ranked challenger.

However, seated as the number thirteenth ranked male fighter in the pound-for-pound pile ahead of his UFC 305 title fight comeback, City Kickboxing is barely in the rankings off the back of his loss, landing at number fifteen behind former champions, Charles Oliveira, and Strickland, respectively.

Israel Adesanya falls down pound-for-pound rankings after UFC 305

Off the back of his loss to the Pretoria native, Adesanya boldly claimed that he believed du Plessis was likely there for the taking in the fourth round before he succumbed to a rear-naked choke defeat.

“He’s (Dricus du Plessis) tough, he’s stubborn that is what it is,” Israel Adesanya said. “Even if he’s tired – which one was it – I sprawled on him, was it round four? Beginning of round four, I hit him with one of the meanest sprawls because he just shot and I just put his face into the mat, and boom.”

“I tried to kick his body and then told him to get up,” Israel Adesanya continued. “Marc (Goddard) was like ‘Get up’, and he laid there on the ground and took a breath, and I was like, ‘He is done.’ So I try to go for him.”

Jamahal Hill Racts to 'Low IQ' Magomed Ankalaev: "Watch your mouth"

Jamahal Hill snapped back at Magomed Ankalaev.

‘Sweet Dreams’ was non-too-pleased to learn that No. 8 ranked contender Khalil Rountree would be the next man to fight Alex Pereira, challenging the light heavyweight champion at UFC 307 this October.

Hill’s biggest gripe being that Rountree was forced to pull out of a previously scheduled scrap in June after being suspended by the NSAC for the use of a banned substance. Now suddenly he’s rewarded with a title opportunity when he feels there are far more deserving candidates.

Jamahal Hill

Candidates like Magomed Ankalaev who is sitting on a 10-fight win streak and currently occupies the No. 2 spot in the light heavyweight rankings.

Still, you don’t see him crying.

Responding to Hill’s frustration, Ankalaev thinks the former champ should pipe down and do the work put in front of him if he ever hopes to earn another shot at the 205-pound title.

Magomed Ankalaev on Jamahal Hill

“Why is Jamahal Hill crying? Pereira just made you sleep, get back in the like and work your way up or be ready for Abu Dhabi because Rakic may pull out,” Ankalaev wrote.

Jamahal Hill claps back at ‘Clout Chaser’ magomed ankalaev

Responding to Ankalaev’s comment on X, ‘Sweet Dreams’ delivered a lengthy rebuttal that took aim at the Russian’s failed title opportunity against Jan Blachowicz two years ago and the ensuing comments he made which could be keeping him out of the title picture now.

“I made a reaction video about the Khalil Rountree and Alex Pereira fight announcement and there was one guy in particular who yeah, I will agree he’s been given the run-around by the business right and I’m assuming now, he’s learned his lesson now to watch his mouth ‘cuz as you know, we talking about Mrs, I ain’t even going to, little ‘Frudamed Gankalaev’, ankle grabber, whatever you want to call him,” Hill said on his YouTube channel. “This dude just can’t stop trying to like clout chase in whatever way he can. Bro like, you fought to a draw, you had your chance, you had your chance of winning the title.

“Now, I am one of the people that agree that he should have been next in the title shot above Khalil Rountree, and I spoke on this. But, for you to say like, say I’m crying because I spoke on an obvious fact of the game that affects everybody in our weight class and things like that, I see what you tried to do bro. You see that the whole fan base, they’re kinda against me, they kind of want to throw sh*t on me and sh*t like that.

“You think that you can get some cool points by jumping on that bandwagon and trying to call me out. Stop it bro, stop it bro. I would expect a low IQ move like that from you, you know what I mean. You don’t want to say anything about the fight being announced because you’ve now learned your lesson from the time whenever you lost, talking about you don’t want to fight for the UFC and now they have now smacked your hand and now you know to watch your mouth and stay in check” (h/t MMA News).

Three weeks after Pereira and Rountree scrap in Salt Lake City, the promotion will make its annual pit stop in Abu Dhabi for UFC 308, featuring a light heavyweight clash between top-five contenders Magomed Ankalaev and Aleksandar Rakic.

GUEChIHWAAAKo 5

Hill thinks Ankalaev’s energy would be better served by focusing on the task at hand rather than picking a fight with him and trying to score some “cool points” with the fans. But if for some reason Rakic can’t make it to fight night, ‘Sweet Dreams’ is more than happy to step in and take care of some “light work.”

“They don’t even like you enough to let you fight [for the title] over the #8 dude! So chill out bro, chill out tryna get cool points bro, focus on other sh*t. You got a fight coming up against Rakić, shout out to Rakić cuz’ he’s very well capable of putting your a** out. But, best believe if my phone ring and they need somebody to come step in and handle you, bro you’re light work for me. You’re light work for me and I can’t wait to show that.”

Claressa Shields

Andre Berto says that Claressa Shields is not getting the credit she deserves for her highly impressive career in boxing. “GWOAT” Claressa Shields represented the USA in the Olympics and has since collected numerous titles across multiple weight classes.

Claressa Shields

The US-born Claressa Shields earned two Olympic Gold Medals as an amateur fighter. Since turning pro, Shields has remained unbeaten in her spotless 15-0 fight career. Along the way, she has earned WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring titles across multiple weight classes. Additionally, she competes in MMA with the PFL. Most recently, “GWOAT” Claressa Shields captured the heavyweight title by way of knockout.

Claressa Shields vs Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse heavyweight

Former Olympian, world champion, and Hall of Fame boxer Andre Berto said that Shields is not getting the respect that she deserves. Speaking in an interview on All The Smoke, he said:

“Somebody like that has been that dominant for so long, two gold medals, multiple world titles, undefeated, just accolades after accolades. I believe that she continues to feel like she has to do more and more and more to continue to try to gain any type of real respect. If it’s boxing, if it’s MMA, if it’s doing rap videos, if it’s YouTube. But she’s trying to deliver you know, to a different type of hype because she feels like she needs to,. But she’s still not getting that type of love, notoriety, or sponsors.

“You got a woman that’s so dominant and has been collecting everything. What else does she need to do to get those real dollars? Those real fight dollars, those real endorsement dollars. Cause, like I said, I see her working overtime. Everybody’s been seeing her working overtime.”

Not only does Claressa Shields not get the respect she deserves, as someone with so many impressive accolades, but she is also actively disrespected, Berto explained. An Olympic medalist and multi-division world champion in boxing, people should be celebrating her as they are witnessing history.

Last year when I spoke to Shields, she broke down exactly where she keeps all of her impressive titles. Because it’s not easy to store so many gold belts and medals.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Timothy Wheaton MMA (@timwheatonmma)

Berto Continued:

“I know these platforms give people a voice that otherwise wouldn’t have one. And a lot of times people say whatever they want to say, but what is all that? The hate and vitriol that’s coming at Claressa Shields. Where is this coming from? My heart for her, man, is just to rest in her greatness. Resting on what she’s accomplished and finishing her career out strong. Get as many bags as she can. Maintain her integrity in the process and, try to leave this thing undefeated.

“I’m not standing for the blatant disrespect of this young lady from these grown men. It’s ridiculous.“
