Fast-rising lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot, currently ranked No. 5 at 155 pounds, is hoping to secure his place among the division elite by throwing down against former champion Charles Oliveira at one of the promotion’s upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) events later this year.

Unfortunately, it sounds like “Do Bronx” is more interested in answering the call of Colby Covington at welterweight.

“I asked to fight Oliveira, but he called out Colby instead,” Gamrot wrote on Twitter. “Guy who only fights once a year and is 2-3 since 2019. We thought you were better than that, Charles. You know I’ll give you fire on the ground. But maybe that’s why you’d rather fight Colby.”

Covington is the one who first called out Oliveira; however, the Brazilian appears to be contemplating the matchup.

Gamrot (24-2, 1 NC) is the winner of three straight, fresh off his unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 299 last March. As for Oliveira (34-10, 1 NC), he’s coming off a split decision loss to Arman Tsaruykyan at UFC 300 just a few weeks back, dropping him to 2-3 across his last five.

“Do Bronx” has yet to respond to Gamrot’s tweet.

Midnight Mania: A Follower Who Needs Validation

UFC 300: Pereira v Hill

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Kayla Harrison’s star is brighter than ever.

The two-time Olympic Judo gold medalist built up her mixed martial arts (MMA) resume largely in the Professional Fighter’s League (PFL) cage. She made her debut for PFL and became a champion there, building an impressive 16-1 professional record in her five years on the roster. Earlier this year, however, Harrison finally jumped ship for the UFC’s Octagon, a move many fight fans have been eagerly anticipating for years.

The big obstacle was presumed to be weight class, as Harrison had never fought at 135-pounds prior to her UFC debut. Fortunately, the Olympian came prepared, making weight and then dominating former champion Holly Holm en route to a second-round submission victory (watch highlights). At 33 years of age, Harrison is a much-needed injection of talent into the women’s Bantamweight title picture, and most everyone is happy she’s on the UFC roster.

Well, not quite everyone.

Though PFL found Donn Davis had a hand in allowing Harrison to transition to the UFC, he doesn’t appear all that impressed by her decision. In an interview with veteran referee John McCarthy, Davis used a basketball analogy to diss Harrison as “a follower who needs validation.”

“It’s interesting,” Davis said on the Weighing In podcast. “Some people at the very top of their career are LeBron James, and some at the very top of their career are Kevin Durant. And they’re both otherworldly basketball players, but who they are is very different people. One wants to lead and change their sport, and wherever they are is the best in the world. The other is a follower who needs validation, and we couldn’t do anything about that.”

That’s a pretty bold description of the first female Judo gold medalist in American history.

Fortunately, both parties are free to go their separate ways now. Harrison can pursue her UFC title dreams, and she’ll likely find herself in an undisputed title fight sooner than later. Davis, meanwhile, can continue to push the envelop and hold events all around the world … if he can pay his athletes.

‘F—k It, We’ll Sue Them’

MMA: MAY 12 Bellator 296
Photo by José Prestes/Pxlmages/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Gegard Mousasi is ready for a fight outside the cage if that’s what it comes down to.

Professional Fighters League’s (PFL) new era has gotten off to a terrible start for one of the most unheralded legends in mixed martial arts (MMA) history. The former Strikeforce and Bellator champion, Mousasi, is officially a part of PFL after Bellator’s acquisition late last year. However, he’s been stuck in limbo without communication ever since.

Mousasi, 38, recently claimed he’s been iced out by PFL without any responses to requests to fight and a belief that he’s too expensive for the promotion to want to oblige the new contract he signed amid the merger. After no progress since speaking out, Mousasi might have to get lawyers involved, which he’s willing to do.

“They said that the amount [of money I get paid], we don’t want to cut you, it’s so much, that it’s better for you, I don’t know, look somewhere else or do something else,” Mousasi said on The MMA Hour.

“At this moment, I’m like, listen, if someone doesn’t want me, I’m like, ‘F—k it. Let’s go,’” he continued. “But my team around me is like, ‘F—k it, we’ll sue them.’ If it was up to me, I would just go, but I don’t know. We’ll see. The team around me is not that happy. So I think there is going to be legal action against them.

“Yeah, [I feel disrespected] because they don’t even want to pick up the phone and talk to us,” Mousasi concluded. “It’s not even funny anymore. It’s the worst organization so far. I’ve fought in a lot of organizations, this is the worst one.”

The MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani reported on the episode with Mousasi before their conversation that he’d heard from PFL and was told they were unaware of the contractual change that happened during the Bellator process. Ultimately, the seasoned 60-fight veteran (49-9-2) isn’t buying it.

“My contract is a couple million,” Mousasi said. “Whatever deal you make, it’s not possible that someone slipped a letter between the other letters, and no one found out. Everything has to be signed by lawyers. So whatever they did, they knew about it. They said they’d take everyone from [Bellator]. So they took me, they knew the contract, and now they’re like, ‘Well, they slipped it in.’ You’re not buying McDonald’s, you’re buying a million-dollar company. It’s not believable that they didn’t know and someone wanted to f—k with them, so they did a very fast contract and no one knew about it. It’s just not true. Everything has to go through lawyers.

“I don’t know why you even took Bellator if you don’t have the money to let the fighters fight,” he concluded.

Rountree Draws Reduced Suspension From CSAD

by Site Admin ~ May 22nd, 2024

UFC Fight Night: Smith v Rountree
Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

UFC light heavyweight slugger Khalil Rountree Jr. was recently removed from the upcoming UFC 303 pay-per-view (PPV) lineup after “War Horse” announced a positive drug test for DHEA, stemming from a tainted supplement he ingested during training camp.

Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) handed down a two-month suspension earlier today, retroactive to May 4, 2024, marking a reduced sanction that reflects “a massive oversight” from the supplement distributor providing Rountree with “therapeutic blends.”

From UFC.com:

Rountree provided CSAD with shipping records, detailing that he received the supplement containing DHEA on May 2, 2024, just two days before he provided the May 4th sample. Rountree also provided documentation from the owner of the clinic that sent him the supplement, reflecting that the company’s Brand Marketing Director sent Rountree some of the company’s “therapeutic blends” supplements “without prior approval.” The owner described the mistake as “a massive oversight on our part.” The evidence reflects that as soon as Rountree realized the mistake, he immediately notified UFC personnel, who immediately passed the information along to CSAD.

CSAD consulted with SMRTL who informed that Rountree’s May 4th sample result was consistent with the above facts and that Rountree’s short-term use of DHEA in the doses present in the dietary supplement did not provide any significant performance benefits.

The former TUF finalist could still face additional sanctions from Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) because the 34 year-old “War Horse” was considered “in competition” ahead of his Jamahal Hill fight at UFC 303 on June 29 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Roundtree (13-5, 1 NC) is the winner of five straight with four knockouts.

Real Madrid CF v Sevilla FC - LaLiga EA Sports

The UFC featherweight champion has big plans for his future, and they involve beating new BMF champ Holloway and fighting McGregor in the home of Real Madrid FC.

New UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is lining up his future opponents, and Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski is not included in the list.

Topuria took the belt off Volkanovski with a second round KO of the longstanding champion, and while a rematch was initially discussed, “El Matador” feels like he has bigger fish to fry now.

“I hope to defend the belt with Max Holloway, and then I wanna fight with Conor McGregor, hopefully,” Topuria told Sportskeeda in a new interview. “If [McGregor] wins his upcoming fight, that’s the fight I’m looking for. So hopefully it’s gonna happen.”

McGregor has his own fast-moving plans: he wants to cram three fights into 2024 to make up for lost time: the June 29th fight with Michael Chandler, a headline fight at the Sphere in September for Mexican Independence Day, and then a final bout in December.

Everyone seems to want onto that Sphere show except Topuria, who has a bigger building he wants to fill: the 80,000+ person Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Spain.

“It’s gonna be the biggest fight in the in the MMA history,” Topuria said. “The biggest ticketing, the biggest pay-per-view, the biggest everything. We’re gonna have 80,000 people watching the fight in the arena. Yeah. It’s gonna be in the Bernabeu. When the UFC is gonna arrive in Spain, it’s gonna happen in Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.”

But first, Conor McGregor has to win his comeback fight at UFC 303. While “The Notorious” hasn’t been too complimentary towards Topuria, Ilia avoided burying the Irish sports star when sharing his prediction for June 29th.

“Conor, he’s he’s something special,” he said. “When he goes inside the cage, you never know. Maybe you see a knockout in 15 seconds, or maybe you see he breaks his leg, or someone knocks him out. So you never know. Something you always know is that you’re gonna see something spectacular in the fight. Something’s gonna happen.”

And if it happens that McGregor smashes Chandler, maybe it will set up a Topuria superfight in Spain for 2024 or 2025.

Midnight Mania! ‘King’ Of The Jungle?

by Site Admin ~ May 22nd, 2024

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Ryan Garcia isn’t pretending to be crazy anymore, but that doesn’t mean the monkeying around is through.

“King” shocked social media with a bizarre video (watch above) of the boxing star serenading an orangutang! Garcia can be seen rapping along to his own recent release — a song titled “Blessed, Highly Favored” — while the orangutan hangs out and eats grapes in the driver’s seat of a car (presumably Garcia’s?).

Reactions amongst fans were mixed. Quite a few fans admitted to finding the stunt funny, while many noted that the orangutan appeared unimpressed by his performance. He received several comparisons to other celebrities and their unusual animal pals, like Mike Tyson and his tiger.

Oddly enough, Garcia also ran into a UFC fighter while hanging out with orangutan. Lightweight talent Jared Gordon posted his own clip, showing both he and Garcia holding hands with the primate before shaking hands with each other.

In the ring, Garcia is just a couple weeks removed from handing Devin Haney the first loss of his professional career (watch it) and making an insane amount of money in the process. Unfortunately, Garcia also failed a drug test for multiple substances immediately after the victory. To his credit, however, Garcia has already been cleared on one substance, but he still has to prove his innocence in regards to Ostarine usage.

Netflix Is A Joke Fest’s “The Greatest Roast Of All Time: Tom Brady”

Sean O’Malley doesn’t like the sound of playing second fiddle to Ilia Topuria.

Ideally, the reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight champion, O’Malley, has hoped for an eventual clash with his fellow titleholder at Featherweight, Topuria. Until that can happen, they’ll each have to get through some top contenders.

O’Malley, 29, will likely next defend his 135-pound crown opposite the surging Georgian, Merab Dvalishvili. With no dates locked in, O’Malley recently pondered possibly competing on another stacked card like his last time out at UFC 299 in March 2024. However, what if he didn’t headline it? “Sugar’s” return timing could align with Topuria’s for his expected next clash against Max Holloway. Depending on the business dealings of such an event, O’Malley wouldn’t be too fond of the concept.

“I’m hoping they do a crazy card like they did in Miami and put me on the main event, get that pay-per-view [points], boy,” O’Malley said on his TimboSugar Show podcast. “I’m trying to think who I would co-main with. Ilia? Yeah. (Sighs) I would be upset. He’s too short.

“If he was taller than me, I’d say that’s fine, but the fact that he’s 5’4” main eventing over me would piss me off,” he continued. “I’d be fine with it if I got pay-per-view. I don’t know if they’d do Max vs. Ilia, me vs. Merab. ‘Cause I’m wondering if Max is gonna get pay-per-view next fight. Not [just] for the BMF, but also because he’s that big of a star. There’s zero perfect chance UFC pays me, Ilia, and Max pay-per-view. So, I don’t think that’s it.”

No matter who is next for Topuria, it will be his first title defense as a champion. O’Malley, on the other hand, successfully defended his title for the first time at the aforementioned UFC 299 event when he won a unanimous decision in his rematch against Marlon “Chito” Vera (watch highlights).

UFC Fight Night: Barboza v Murphy
Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently updated its official rankings in the wake of its UFC Vegas 92 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which took place last Sat. night (May 18, 2024) at APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. That’s where Lerone Murphy announced his arrival in the Top 15 by turning away veteran striker Edson Barboza. In addition, strawweight mainstay Angela Hill cracked the strawweight Top 10 by submitting 115-pound bruiser Luana Pinheiro.

Get compete UFC Vegas 92 results and video highlights right here.

Here’s how UFC compiles its official rankings:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).

UFC 299: O’Malley v Vera 2

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

UFC Bantamweight kingpin Sean O’Malley may triple his fight purse income from social media income, but perhaps that’s actually more dangerous than stepping into the cage?

In a new episode of his TimboSugarShow podcast, O’Malley talked about a recent incident during a Twitch streaming center. According to “Suga,” he was the victim of a “Swatting” incident, in which a false call to the police is made against an unsuspecting person. Swatting is both illegal and dangerous, as armed officers are sent into what they believe to be dangerous situations.

“Went home, I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m gonna stream today,’” O’Malley explained (via LowKickMMA). “Streaming, about an hour and a half in I see a f—king cop fly down my road. I feel like instantly I kinda knew because I’ve heard about Adin [Ross] and the big streamers getting swatted. People find out where they’re at and they call the cops, say something happened that obviously didn’t happen and then they’re f—king getting swatted.”

“So, I peek out my head out the window to see if maybe it’s something else. But then they’re on the intercom and I see a bunch of cops and they’re like, ‘Walk out with your hands up.’ So I f—king walk out, hands up. I was like, ‘I’m just gonna listen. I could get shot.’” I was like, ‘Okay if I just listen to them, I’ll be alright.’ But you never know, someone sneezes, pulls the trigger. I got f—king shotguns pointed at me. ARs from like four different cops pointed at me. I was like I’m just gonna listen and walk back.”

After O’Malley surrendered himself to the police, he was cuffed and put in the back of a cop car. Fortunately, another set of officers arrived and recognized O’Malley, letting him go. O’Malley also revealed that whoever made the call said there was an active shooter in the building, as well as dead bodies.

“No. They didn’t have me get on the ground,” O’Malley continued. “I just turned around, walked backward with my hands up, put me in handcuffs. Put me in the cop car. I just used it as a meditation because moments like those bring you into the present moment so much. I was sitting in the back of that cop car in handcuffs and I was like, ‘Dude, that’s crazy. I had freedom five minutes ago. Now I have none. Zero.’

“They said I killed my parents or something like that, and they thought there was an active shooter inside … Someone called the cops and said there’s an active shooter, and two dead people in the house or something.”

In the cage, O’Malley most recently defeated Marlon Vera via dominant five-round decision, avenging the only loss of his professional career. Next up for “Suga” should be a showdown opposite streaking contender Merab Dvalishvili, potentially at The Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada.
