Four fighters earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses for their wins at UFC Vegas 88 on Saturday.

The event took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and was headlined by a heavyweight bout between ninth-ranked Tai Tuivasa and tenth-ranked Marcin Tybura.  Tybura was among the four fighters that took home an extra $ 50,000.  The others included women’s strawweight Jaquelin Amorim, flyweight Jafel Filho, and women’s bantamweight Macy Chiasson.

Performance Of The Night: Jaqueline Amorim

With the extensive jiu jitsu background that Jaqueline Amorim has, it was only a matter of time until she locked up her first UFC submission.  The strawweight prospect went right to work against Cory McKenna – transitioning through a few submission attempts before finding the armbar early in the first round. Amorim’s submission was the fourth fasted in women’s strawweight history and it showcased just how talented Amorim is on the canvas.

Performance Of The Night: Jafel Filho

For the second fight in a row, Jafel Filho has put the flyweight division on notice. Filho nearly submitted rising contender Muhammad Mokaev in his debut and then he succeeded in submitting Daniel Barez in his sophomore UFC appearance. At UFC Fight Night: Tuivasa vs Tybura he went back to the well against veteran Ode’ Osbourne. Filho timed a shot and got Osbourne to the canvas. After that he just waited for Osbourne to make a mistake before sinking in a rear naked choke and forcing the tap. At this rate Filho will make himself one of the names to watch at 125-pounds.

Performance Of The Night: Macy Chiasson

Welcome back Macy Chiasson! The bantamweight contender was away from the Octagon for a year and half and came back with a vengeance. Chiasson faced a familiar foe in Pannie Kianzad as the two fought almost six years ago on The Ultimate Fighter, with Chiasson winning by submission. It was the same result at UFC Fight Night: Tuivasa vs Tybura. Chiasson took Kianzad to the floor and found the rear naked choke to get the win. It was an important win for Chiasson who is right back on track.

Performance Of The Night: Marcin Tybura

A heavyweight main event usually is a signal of banger fight and for as long as it lasted, that’s exactly what Tai Tuivasa vs Marcin Tybura was.Tuivasa came out of the gate swinging, clipping Tybura with an elbow that opened up a cut on his head, but the Polish contender didn’t flinch. Tybura worked for a takedown and then started pouring strikes down on Tuivasa. When Tuivasa made an attempt to get out of danger Tybura jumped on his neck and finished the fight. It was the perfect bounce back performance for Tybura and keeps him right in the mix at the top tier of the heavyweight division.

Following Saturday’s UFC Vegas 88 fights, the big winners fielded questions from the media during the post-fight press conference.  

Marcin Tybura choked out Tai Tuivasa in the fight card’s main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.  After taking some damage on his feet, Tybura took Tuivasa down.  On the ground, he took Tuivasa’s back and choked him unconscious with a rear-naked choke in the opening round.

Three fighters missed weight on Friday.  Natan Levy came in a half pound over the limit for his preliminary card bout against Mike Davis.  Chelsea Chandler weighed a pound over the bantamweight limit for her bout against Josiane Nunes.  Danny Silva was 2.5 pounds over the featherweight limit for his bout against Josh Culibao.  All three were fined 20% of their fight purse.

The UFC Vegas 88 main event is officially set.  Heavyweights Tai Tuivasa and Marcin Tybura successfully made weight on Friday in Las Vegas.  

Tuivasa (14-6) weighed in at 265.5 pounds while Tubura tipped the scales at 247 pounds.

For two days Mark Coleman has been sedated in the hospital being treated for smoke inhalation after saving his parents from a house fire.  “Hammer” awoke on Thursday and told the story of what happened.  

In the video, Coleman embraces his daughters, Morgan and Kenzie, and emotionally recounts what took place before he was airlifted to a Toledo hospital in critical condition.   

“I’m the happiest man in the world,” Coleman said in the video. “Sweet God, I’m so lucky. I can’t believe my parents are alive.  They shouldn’t be here.  I had to make a decision, Wes. Because I got out of my room and went to the door and it was already horrible. I couldn’t breathe. I almost had to go outside and I went back in and got them. I can’t believe I got them but I couldn’t find Hammer” (the dog).

Great news to start the day.

Per his Facebook page, Mark Coleman is responsive, talking and laughing with his family.

Mark says "I'm the happiest man in the world!", as he recalls saving his parents lives.

A GoFundMe was set up by Coleman’s daughters to raise money for the expense of his medical treatment.  Coleman was the inaugural UFC heavyweight champion.  He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in both the “pioneer” and “fight” categories.  

Coleman last fought in 2010 after losing to Randy Couture in the first Hall of Famer vs. Hall of Famer bout in the promotion’s history.  He officially announced his retirement in 2013.

Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis captured the 185-pound championship by narrowly defeating Sean Strickland in the UFC 297 main event on Jan. 20.  The bout earned Fight of the Night honors.

The fight ended in a split decision but some didn’t agree with the judges, including UFC CEO Dana White.  

“I had it 2-2 going into the last round and I thought that Strickland won the last round. Guys who were sitting at the same table had it the other way. It was a close fight,” White said during the UFC 297 Post-Fight Press Conference.  

Strickland wants a rematch.  On Wednesday, “Tarzan” posted that he wanted to ‘run it back’ with the South African.  

“You know I don’t care about fight politics or a belt but it makes me laugh they give izzy a rematch to alex after getting slept.. I lost a close decision that dana himself thought I won. Everyone did.. The stats did. That needs to be run back,” Strickland wrote on X.

There are some differences in Israel Adesanya getting a rematch with Alex Pereira compared to Strickland’s situation.  Prior to the Pereira loss, Adesanya had successfully defended the title five times.  He was on his way to winning until Pereira ended the fight in the final round.  The loss to Du Plessis at UFC 297 was Strickland’s first title defense.  

UFC matchmakers worked to book Adesanya and Du Plessis to headline UFC 300.  While the fight didn’t material for that fight card, it’s expected to take place next.

Following Ian Machado Garry’s UFC 298 win over Geoff Neal on Feb. 17, he called out former three-time title challenger Colby Covington.  Weeks later, Covington responded.  

In a video posted to Instagram, Covington responded to the callout by attacking Garry’s wife and giving stipulations for the fight to happen.

“Let me teach you all a lesson about how you bait someone. Ian Garry, you translucent cuck, you wanted my attention, now you got it,” Covington said in the video.  “Everybody knows why you want to fight me, Ian. I’m the biggest star in the division. It’s big city, bright lights, and the most attention and eyes you’re ever gonna have on you when I fight. But, everybody knows Ian you missed your chance, you had your chance in December to step on the same stage as me and have a microphone and say whatever you want to say to me.”

“But, you were scared, you were scared of what I was going to say to you and you got the sniffles and you cried your way out. That was just a taste of what I could do to you, Ian. All I did was ask the five thousand people in attendance, how many people banged your wife? It’s not my fault that every single one of them raised their hand. If you are scared of that Ian, if you are scared of words, what do you think it’s going to be like when you step in the steel cage with Chaos.”

Covington gave three stipulations for the fight to happen.

Let me teach you the art of a deal, Ian. Let’s come to a compromise. If you can meet these three stipulations, we got a fight. Stipulation one, you and the gold-digging w***e got to turn your Instagram comments back on, and if you turn them back off before the fight, you forfeit the fight. If you turn them off during fight week or after I beat your ass, you forfeit your purse. Stipulation number two, Ian we have heard you cry and beg on your knees, but we all now you aren’t the boss and you don’t wear the pants in your relationship,” Covington said.  

“Layla, you got 60 seconds to convince me and the people why this fight needs to happen. So, put your husband in the corner, get on your hands and knees and beg. Now, for stipulation number three, my personal favorite. As you all may have noticed, something has been missing from my MyBookie promos lately, that’s because I’ve been saving that spot for a special someone. Layla, you want to be a star? You want the spotlight, I got it for you, sweetie,” Covington continued.  

Garry is undefeated (14-0) and ranked seventh in the 170-pound division.  Covington (17-4) lost to champion Leon Edwards in his last outing.  He’s ranked fourth but has lost three of his last fight fights.
