UFC 301: Pereira v Potieria
Photo by Alexandre Loureiro/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Michel Pereira avenged Mauricio Rua and earned himself some extra cash all in one fell swoop.

The bombastic middleweight cashed another $ 50,000 Performance of the Night bonus on Saturday after choking Ihor Potieria unconscious on the main card of UFC 301. Pereira’s handiwork came just minutes after the UFC announced Rua’s induction into the 2024 class of the UFC Hall of Fame; Rua infamously lost to Potieria in his retirement fight in 2023.

Pereira has now cashed post-fight bonuses in four consecutive bouts.

Joining Pereira on the money train were Caio Borralho, Maurício Ruffy, and Alessandro Costa, all of whom earned additional $ 50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses.

Borralho knocked out Paul Craig on UFC 301’s pay-per-view opener, while Ruffy and Costa scored impressive knockouts of Jamie Mullarkey and Kevin Borjas on the night’s undercard.

UFC 301 took place May 4 at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro. UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defended his belt against Steve Erceg in the night’s main event.

UFC 300: Turner v Moicano
Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Bruce Buffer rarely messes up, but even he seemingly didn’t expect Anthony Smith to upset Vitor Petrino at UFC 301.

Despite being more than a 4-to-1 underdog on some sportsbooks, Smith needed just two minutes to submit Petrino and topple the Brazilian prospect from the ranks of the unbeaten. Afterward, Buffer announced the winner as “the still undefeated Vitor Petrino” — much to the amusement of Smith — before quickly correcting himself and giving the one-time title challenger his flowers.

Watch Buffer’s flub below, along with reaction from Smith and Daniel Cormier.

Smith, 35, has now won two of his past three bouts, sandwiching a split decision over Ryan Spann between a knockout loss to Khalil Rountree Jr.

Petrino, 26, snaps a four-fight win streak that kicked off his UFC career and had many hailing him as one of the top prospects at 205 pounds.

UFC 301 took place May 4 at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Get full results here.

Mauricio Ruffy and Jamie Mullarkey

Mauricio Ruffy just had one hell of a debut at UFC 301.

On Saturday night at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Ruffy faced Jamie Mullarkey in a preliminary lightweight bout, and “One Shot” didn’t quite live up to his nickname, but he did show out, bludgeoning Mullarkey around the cage en route to a first-round stoppage.

Ruffy looked good early, lighting Mullarkey up with his dynamic striking attack and earning comparisons to a young Conor McGregor from the commentary team. A pair of nasty right hands stung Mullarkey near the end of the round and then the onslaught truly began with a flying knee and a series of punches the finally crumbled with just 18 seconds left in the round.

The win moves the 30-year-old Ruffy to 10-1 in his MMA career, and following the victory he sent a warning to lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, telling the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world that a new king was coming for him.

Check out Ruffy’s highlight reel finish below.
