11 years after re-posting and quickly deleting a controversial Sandy Hook video, Ronda Rousey believes now is the right time to apologize to those hurt by the tragedy.

Back in 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire in an elementary school, taking 26 innocent lives — with 20 of those being children aged between six and seven. After the shooting, conspiracies began surfacing claiming that the horrific events were a hoax and the grieving parents were merely paid actors.

Ronda Rousey was one of those who agreed with the conspiracy theory, though she later had a change of heart.

The former UFC ace poured her emotions out in a statement shared to social media.

“I can’t say how many times I’ve redrafted this apology over the last 11 years,” Rousey said. “How many times I’ve convinced myself it wasn’t the right time or that I’d be causing even more damage by giving it.”

“But eleven years ago I made he single most regrettable decision of my life. I watched a Sandy Hook conspiracy video and reposted it on twitter.”

“I didn’t even believe it, but was so horrified at the truth that I was grasping for an alternative fiction to cling to instead.”

“I quickly realized my mistake and took it down, but the damage was done.”

An emotional Ronda Rousey continued.

“I convinced myself that apologizing would just reopen the wound for no other reason than me selfishly trying to make myself feel better.”

“That I would hurt those suffering even more and possibly lead more people down the black hole of conspiracy bullsh*t by it being brought up again just so I could try to shake the label of being a ‘Sandy Hook truther’.”

Rousey pushed ahead with her sincere apology to those damaged by the Sandy Hook massacre.

“I apologize that this came 11 years too late, but those affected by the Sandy Hook massacre, from the bottom of my heart and depth of my soul I am so so sorry for the hurt I caused.”

“I can’t even begin to imagine the pain you’ve endured and words annot describe how thoroughly remorseful and ashamed j am of myself for contributing to it.”

“I’ve regretted it every day of my life since and will continue to do so until the day I die.”

She later pleaded with others to not fall into the same trap as she did by listening to conspiracy theories.

“To anyone else that’s fallen down the black hole of bullsh*t. It doesn’t make you edgy, or an independent thinker, you’re not doing your due diligence entertaining every possibility by digesting these conspiracies.”

“They will only make you feel powerless, afraid, miserable, and isolated. You’re doing nothing but hurting others and yourself.”

“I’m Not Just Fighting for Myself” - Chase Hooper on Fatherhood

A lot has changed for lightweight standout Chase Hooper over the years.

Hooper was just 18-years-old when he signed a development deal with the UFC and quickly became a social media sensation courtesy of his wiry frame and accompanying baby face. It certainly didn’t hurt that he had the skills to match as the accomplished BJJ wizard scored a big first-round finish in his promotional debut against Daniel Teymur at UFC 245.

Chase Hooper

Five years later, things are drastically different for Hooper both in and out of the Octagon, but ‘The Dream’ finally feels like he’s getting the hang of being an adult with a very unique career choice.

“It’s definitely been a difficult journey,” Hooper told RG.org of growing up in the bright lights of the UFC. “I was still figuring out everything, like how to buy a house, how to pay my bills, how to pay taxes. But I think I’m definitely starting to find my groove in and out of the cage. I’m starting to figure out how to live with this type of career.”

Chase Hooper

One of the biggest changes is that Hooper is no longer fighting for just himself. Every time he steps into the cage, it’s an opportunity for him to give his daughter a better life.

“Losing a fight, the worst thing was probably on the ego,” Hooper said. “But now, I need to provide. It’s for a purpose now. I’m not just fighting for myself. I’m fighting so that my daughter can be in a better position than I was growing up.”

Chase Hooper’s move to lightweight has proven to be a wise decision

As Hooper began to grow into his 6’1″ frame, the Enumclaw, Washington native made the move up the lightweight. It’s proven to be a wise decision as he’s since rattled off three straight wins, including back-to-back submission victories over Jordan Leavitt and Viacheslav Borshchev.

Chase Hooper

“Now, I’m not so scared of all these names,” Hooper said. “There are some scary names up there. There are some guys that are dangerous. But I know I can hang with these guys. Obviously, I don’t think I’m ready for Islam [Makhachev] next week. But I’m working my way up the division and I’m stacking that resume up.”

Going forward, Hooper believes his biggest asset inside the Octagon will be his unconventional style which will be difficult for his opponents to replicate while training.

“I have some of the best jiu-jitsu in the division,” he said. “That’s kind of a niche skill set; that’s not super common. So I think having a weird style, it’s hard to prepare for. I think I can catch a lot of these guys … there’s definitely some winnable fights in the outer edge of the top 15.”

Ronda Rousey will always be a massive part of the history of MMA and whilst she was a pioneer in many ways, no female fighter has been able to reach that same level of star power.

There have been many athletes that come along with elements of star potential but the PFL’s Dakota Ditcheva appears to have everything.

It was clear that she had a special quality about her when talking to the media but of course, none of that matters if you can’t back it up in the cage.

Despite detractors regarding her quality of opponents, Ditcheva has beaten everyone that the PFL has put in front of her to go from winning the PFL Europe tournament last year to advancing to the finals of the regular season this year, where she will take on former UFC title challenger Taila Santos in a must-see bout.

Sean O’Connell Says Dakota Ditcheva Has Everything She Needs To Be A Huge Star

Ditcheva appeared on stage moments before the press conference for Francis Ngannou’s PFL debut, where she was joined by Jake Paul who compared her to Rousey.

PFL commentator Sean O’Connell believes that whilst she might be doing it in a different way, he can understand the comparisons between the former face of women’s MMA and one of the most exciting contenders around right now.

He spoke in an interview with TalkSPORT about how Ditcheva has the world at her feet because she ticks every box to become a huge star.

“She has the potential to be a superstar but not for the same reasons as Ronda Rousey. Ronda was the pioneer, Ronda was the one that broke the barrier and got women into the UFC and unfortunately, that’s a milestone that can never be reached again even for someone with the star caliber of Dakota Ditcheva. You could make the argument that it’s going to be harder for Dakota to reach those heights of celebrity but she absolutely is capable of it.

“First of all, because of how incredible she is as a fighter but also she understands the media game, right. She knows exactly when to switch off that savage and become the sweetheart again. She’s got the look, she’s got the charisma and when you have that plus the ability to knock women out like she does, the sky is the limit.”
