Israel Adesanya: "You can't erase Francis Ngannou from UFC history"

Huge respect to Israel for this. He's following Francis' footsteps and people in their position speaking out against the UFC is great for the sport.

UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6: Jones v Lovato

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Craig Jones has revealed the game plan for his upcoming freak show/super fight versus nine-time ADCC champion Gabi Garcia. The jiu-jitsu ace and Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) organizer is known for goofing around and acting silly, but Jones wanted to publicly make his intentions clear ahead of his bout versus Garcia.

He’s going after her legs!

In a recent Instagram post, Craig posted a screenshot of a prop bet alongside a picture of him staring down his much larger opponent. Jones is betting big money on himself to win via leg lock specifically. He wrote, “In case you thought I was going to take it easy on her. 100k of my own money on the line.”

This type of betting would be illegal in the UFC, but there are no such regulations in the jiu-jitsu world. There’s barely even drug testing!

CJI will go down this weekend from Las Vegas, Nevada and feature some of the biggest names in jiu-jitsu. The tournament will intentionally go head-to-head with the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) tournament, which previously was well-established as the greatest heights in no-gi jiu-jitsu. Jones, however, is unimpressed by the payouts ADCC offers, and so he’s created his own tournament with a mystery financial backer.

Check out the full CJI brackets right HERE!

Insomnia

Israel Adesanya speaks out against the UFC erasure of Francis Ngannou (something Tito Ortiz once predicted!).

Sadly, UFC 307 has lost a planned banger between Chris Curtis and Kevin Holland. Shara “Bullet” to the rescue?

Charles Jourdain is heading to Bantamweight after his recent knockout loss … who thinks this works out well for the Canadian veteran?

Darren Till might be misremembering the first round of his fight versus Dricus Du Plessis.

Alex Volkanovski aside, I have no doubt there are plenty of Rugby athletes who could kill it in MMA.

Can Coach Khabib save Johnny Walker’s career? It’s certainly a step up from SBG Ireland!

Jordan Leavitt calls out Clay Guida, which seems like a reasonable match up?

UFC Fight Night: Allen v Curtis 2
Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Chris Curtis is no longer fighting Kevin Holland at UFC 307 in October.

The veteran middleweight revealed late Wednesday night that he suffered an injury in training that will prevent him from competing until the latter part of 2024 or early 2025.

“I’m fine, guys. Bit of a fracture in my left foot,” Curtis wrote on Twitter. “Caught Caio Borralho on the knee, at the very end of the last round of sparring. The bigger problem is I have something called a Lisfranc injury as well, which means I’m not even supposed to be walking without crutches the next four to five weeks, which sucks but had it been any worse, it would have possibly been surgical.

“So count your blessings there. Hopefully, I’ll be OK for December. If not, I’ll see you all next year. Thanks for all the comments and concerns.”

It’s been an up and down year for Curtis after he started off 2024 with a win over Marc-Andre Barriault but then dropped a razor-close decision in a short-notice rematch against Brendan Allen in April. Curtis suffered an injury to his hamstring that kept him sidelined for several months until he booked the matchup against Holland in October.

Unfortunately, now he’s suffered another setback with the fractured foot.

As far as the Lisfranc injury, that happens “if bones in the midfoot are broken or ligaments that support the midfoot are torn,” per OrthInfo. The severity of the injury can vary depending on how much damage is done in the foot.

Judging by Curtis’ comments, he’s hopeful that the injuries won’t keep him out of action too long, but he definitely won’t be able to fight by October.

Sources told MMA Fighting that no replacement opponent has been secured for Holland at this time. It’s expected that a search will be underway, with hopes to keep Holland on the card that takes place at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Oct. 5.

Lumumba Sayers arrested for alleged revenge killing

Sayers, who remains in police custody in Adams County, Colorado – has been charged with first-degree murder and felony menacing charges, with his bond currently set at $ 1,000,000, as per court records obtained by MMA Fighting.

The alleged victim in the incident surrounding Sayers was indentified as Malcolm Watson, who is believed to be an associate of another man who has been accused of murdering Lumumba Sayers’ son during a shooting in August of last year.

The affidavit obtained by Denver7 revealed how it stated that “this murder was probably in retaliation or revenge”.

Sayers in alleged to have approached the above-mentioned Watson, 28, before shooting him “in the head at close range”. Furthermore, Sayers is also alleged to have went back to the body of Watson in a bid to shoot him for a second time before his weapon malfunctioned.

Over the course of his mixed martial arts career, which ended back in 2014, Sayers ended his career in the sport in the midst of a three-fight losing run, all coming via stoppage which included a first round triangle loss to former UFC title challenger, Anthony Smith.

In his most recent professional mixed martial arts win, Sayers defeated Scott Smith with a first round guillotine choke submission win at Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey.

UFC Fight Night: Namajunas v Cortez
Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Flyweights Rose Namajunas and Erin Blanchfield headline UFC’s return to Canada on Nov. 2 at the Rogers Place in Edmonton.

UFC CEO Dana White announced the event to Canada’s Sportsnet on Thursday.

Namajunas and Blanchfield clash in the five-round headliner as both fighters look to take a step toward title contention with a win.

While both fell to Manon Fiorot in recent fights, Blanchfield was widely considered one of the top contenders in the division prior to that loss, while Namajunas has scored back-to-back wins since falling to the French flyweight in her 125-pound debut.

Several more fights were also announced for the Edmonton card, including a heavyweight co-main event featuring all-time UFC knockout leader Derrick Lewis returning to action against Alexandr Romanov. Lewis most recently dispatched Rodrigo Nascimento by third-round knockout in May, while Romanov looks to get back in the win column following a submission loss to Jailton Almeida in June.

Ariane Da Silva also returns to face Canadian favorite Jasmine Jasudavicius in another flyweight matchup, while Marc-Andre Barriault takes on Dustin Stoltzfus at middleweight.

Another Canadian, Jamey-Lyn Horth, faces Ivana Petrovic, while recent The Ultimate Fighter finalist Cody Gibson returns against Chad Anheliger.

More UFC Edmonton fights are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
