Ailin Perez isn’t making many friends on the UFC roster.
The latest target of Perez’s ire is flyweight contender Tracy Cortez, who narrowly avoided missing weight for her main event bout against Rose Namajunas on Saturday at UFC Denver. Cortez initially weighed in a half-pound over the limit Friday morning, but returned later with a noticeable length of hair having been cut off so she could beat the scale.
This is a pivotal bout for Cortez, who stepped in on short notice as a replacement for Maycee Barber. Cortez is undefeated in the UFC, and Namajunas, a two-time strawweight champion, is by far her most well-known opponent to date.
Perez was in disbelief at Cortez’s near-miss and she let her thoughts be known in an Instagram Story.
@ailu.perez.ufc, Instagram “Wow [Cortez] you really had to cut your hair to make weight,” Perez wrote. “You were gifted an amazing opportunity to be a main event versus a former UFC champ and you barely made it. LOL. What a waste of an opportunity, you are showing your lack of preparation for a moment so big.”
Cortez has had trouble with making weight before, having come in a half-pound over the limit for a fight with Justine Kish in April 2021. The 30-year-old’s success has been slowed by inactivity as she has fought just once per calendar year dating back to 2020.
Perez, currently a competitor in the UFC’s 135-pound division, is developing a reputation for feuding with other women on the roster. She threatened to sue Joselyne Edwards after the two were involved in a physical altercation at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas in this past November — Perez defeated Edwards via unanimous decision at UFC 302 the following June — and has also attracted the attention of bantamweight star Kayla Harrison.
At the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony in June, Harrison said she’d be open to fighting Perez, referring to her as “the twerker” for her choice of in-cage celebration.
Perez’s next fight is expected to be against Darya Zheleznyakova at UFC Paris on Sept. 28.

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
The federal government may have accepted Bobby Green’s name change, but his UFC 304 opponent Paddy Pimblett won’t follow suit. Pimblett doesn’t care that Green’s longtime moniker “King” is now his legal name. In fact, he thinks it’s a sign of mental decline following a couple bad knockout losses in recent years.
“No, his name is Bobby, lad,” Pimblett explained to MMA Junkie. “He was born Bobby, he was Christened Bobby, his mom and daddy call him Bobby. His name is Bobby. … The fact that he’s changed his name at nearly 40 years of age shows that CTE is real.”
He continued, “I do think it’s still affecting him because he got clipped with a few shots against Jim Miller, who’s not a big puncher … I think he’s a little bit chinny now. Not even just the Jalin Turner one, he got knocked out clean by Drew Dober as well a couple of months before that.”
The Dober knockout actually happened about a year prior to Green’s loss to Turner, but nobody can deny that the “Tarantula” dropped a hellish amount of damage on Green. It will be interesting to see if Pimblett tries to take advantage of Green’s potentially declined durability, however, because Green is historically rather difficult to drag to the floor.
UFC 304 is scheduled to go down in just a couple weeks on July 27 from Manchester, England, and the Lightweight contest is situated prominently on the main card. It’s an important fight for Pimblett, who will attempt to break into the 155-pound rankings by taking out No. 15-ranked Green and extending his UFC win streak to six. King, meanwhile, has won three of his last four bouts, most recently bloodying up Jim Miller in a decisive victory.

Brendan Allen and Nassourdine Imavov are the two Middleweight prospects-turned-contenders that often seem overlooked, but the winner should be in title shot discussion.

A pivotal lightweight matchup is heading to Australia.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Mateusz Gamrot and Dan Hooker is targeted for UFC 305 on Aug. 17 at RAC Arena in Perth. Verbal agreements are in place for the bout. Hooker first teased the bout on his Instagram Stories earlier in the week.
Gamrot enters the fight with three straight wins and victories in seven of his past eight. The former KSW champion competed earlier this year, picking up a decision win over former champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 299 in March.
Hooker returns to action for the first time in 13 months and does so riding back-to-back victories. In his most recent appearance, “Hangman” battled back to earn a gritty split decision win over Jalin Turner at UFC 290 in July 2023.
UFC 305 is headlined by a middleweight title fight between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya.

Amid continued speculation over his continuance in mixed martial arts, former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier has revealed he had requested a release from his UFC contract amid a spat back in 2019.
Poirier, a former interim lightweight champion, most recently headlined UFC 302 back in May, unsuccessfully challenging for the undisputed title for a third time in a D’Arce choke submission loss to Islam Makhachev.

And weighing up his immediate fighting future in the time since his submission defeat to the pound-for-pound number one, Lafayette veteran, Poirier has since claimed he would likely make one final walk to the Octagon.
Linked with a potential trilogy rubber match with fellow former interim champion, Justin Gaethje subsequently – as well as an overdue meeting with ex-UFC star, Nate Diaz, Poirier also drew three-time foe, Conor McGregor into another spat on social media this week.

Dustin Poirier reveals 2019 spat with UFC officials
And often sharing a vociferous relationship with the UFC in recent years especially, Poirier – who was embroiled in a saga regarding his status on a March fight with Benoit Saint-Denis, revealed he sought his release from his contract back in 2019.
“I’ve had to fight and push back with everything I’ve ever got from the UFC,” Dustin Poirier told MMA Fighting. “It’s been a war zone behind the scenes every contract, every fight. Probably when I was asking to be released, before I fought Max (Holloway) in 2019 in Atlanta. I don’t remember exactly but they were offering fights that I didn’t want.”
“I don’t know exactly but i was asking to be released then,” Dustin Poirier explained. “I ended up getting the Max fight, so it worked out. Yeah, and the people they were offering me, where my contract was – I don’t remember exactly but that was the closest I was to being [finished].”
Who do you want to see Dustin Poirier fight in a UFC return?
