Jorge Masvidal is all about competition. But a little bad blood never hurt to sell a fight.
“Gamebred” meets Nate Diaz in the boxing ring this Saturday, nearly five years after their first meeting at UFC 244 that Masvidal won by doctor stoppage to become the inaugural “BMF” champion.
For the most part, Masvidal and Diaz have spoken respectfully of each other. Both fighters became fan favorites in the UFC for their exciting styles and their unfiltered personalities. That realness bubbled over in a chaotic way when their teams threw down following a June 7 press conference in Anaheim, Calif.
After that, all bets are off for Masvidal.
“At the end of the day for me, it’s just competing,” Masvidal said speaking to the media at a scrum in Los Angeles. “This one, there’s more at stake for than the last one because every fight, the smallest of the fights or the biggest of the fights have led to this. So I take every fight with the same amount of caution and respect. Whoever I’m fighting has two hands, you know?
“Now, on a personal level, yeah, I don’t like this dude at all, for what happened with my coach and shit. But we’ll figure it out July 6 when we get in there.”
During the brief scrap, several punches were landed by members of Masvidal and Diaz’s teams before the parties were separated. Masvidal, a veteran of 52 pro MMA bouts, flipped the switch when he returned to the gym following the incident.
“It went from boxing setting to kill setting,” Masvidal said. “That’s all I want to do is I want to hurt this dude bad.”
One prominent figure in the post-press conference brawl was Diaz teammate and pro fighter Nick Kohring a.k.a. “Killshot.” He can be seen engaging one-on-one with someone on Masvidal’s side.
Kohring holds a 13-2 record and most recently competed in bare-knuckle boxing for BKFC this pat March, when he defeated Kyle McElroy by first-round knockout.
Had Masvidal been aware of his history, he might have been more aggressive with the Diaz associate. As it stands, he’s confident Killshot will get what’s coming to him one way or another.
“So when I was grabbing [Kohring], swinging him around… I didn’t hit him because I thought it was just a f*cking nobody,” Masvidal said. “Now I found out you’re a pro fighter attacking my coach with another homeboy of yours. Full beans, bro, that p*ssy is going to have to see me or my boys at some point.”
“I’m into scrapping, especially if you mess with my people. That’s what you chose and I’m sure that if he doesn’t cross paths with me, he’s going to cross paths with some devils pretty soon.”

Israel Adesanya added a new hobby during his break from competition, and middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis believes that after UFC 305, it will be something his rival will be doing a lot more of in the future.
Du Plessis and Adesanya shared the stage during Tuesday’s UFC 305 on-sale press conference in Perth, Australia, ahead of their championship headliner on Aug. 17 at RAC Arena.
Adesanya, a two-time middleweight champion, returns to action for the first time since losing the title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 this past September. In his time off, “The Last Stylebender” said he took up golf, and while things were surprisingly tame between he and du Plessis, there was one heated moment between the two.
“For me, there’s no tension from me,” du Plessis said. “I get into the octagon and I do my job, I do my business. You can be the biggest asshole in the world, you can be the nicest guy in the world, I’m going out there to kill you — and I hope you’re doing the same to me, because otherwise, it’s not going to be a good night for you.
“And as far as discrediting, I’ve never discredited anybody. [I’m] stating facts. Where do I reside? What’s my postal code? Where do I train, where do I live? Where was I born? In South Africa. Still there, still training, and I won this belt from South Africa. I didn’t travel anywhere else. That was the only thing that I stated. So, never discredited anybody, and quite frankly, I don’t really care about how it rubbed him the wrong way. I don’t care.”
“I don’t really give a f*ck where he’s from, but I’ll show him who he is,” Adesanya responded.
“Whatever that means,” du Plessis said to Adesanya. “I’m glad you took up golf because that’s your retirement sport. I can understand you starting playing golf.”
Du Plessis is set to make his first title defense after earning a split decision win over Strickland at UFC 297 in January.

Nate Diaz explains why his performance in the Jake Paul fight left a little to be desired, and it involves four weeks of hard partying after a training camp injury.
Nate Diaz has a reputation for being one of the toughest fighters out there. But which Diaz are we expecting to see on July 6th when Nate fights Jorge Masvidal in an Anaheim boxing ring? The one who engaged in a legendary series of fights against Conor McGregor in 2016? Or the one who cruised to a listless decision loss against Jake Paul in 2023?
Paul has come out and mocked Diaz for his performance in their boxing match, saying the Stockton fighter was the weakest puncher he’d ever faced. In a new interview with ESPN, Diaz gave some eyebrow raising reasons as to why he wasn’t punching up to his usual level.
“For one, I was injured and I couldn’t even really throw a punch,” he said. “I was f—ed up. And for two, he was the easiest fight I ever had. That was the longest fight at the heaviest weightclass I ever had. Never got tired. Never got hurt. Nothing.”
“Even when I got knocked down, I think it was timing because it didn’t hurt, I got up like ‘You good?’ ‘Oh, I’m fine.’ I thought he was pretty weak himself.”
There have been several fuzzy reports on Diaz’s injury at the time of the Paul fight, with descriptions ranging from a bum shoulder to pinched back nerve. And now Nate is sharing some new info on how he decided to handle the setback.
“I went on a four week bender before the fight,” Diaz said. “We trained hard for months on months and we were over it, me and my whole team. So I sat back and started kicking it. I was over training.”

“If it was a scary opponent, you wouldn’t allow yourself to do that. But it was just easy to go to sleep at night fighting that guy. But it was good that it happened like that because now it’s necessary to work out, get disciplined, and go back and whip his ass.”
“I’m the weakest puncher, and you’re the one that wanted to fight 30 pounds over my original weight division?” Diaz asked. “You think I was just trying to sit there and just knock you out? Like throw as hard of punches as I can? I was just getting through that fight because I was half way to my potential that day.”
As for how his training camp has been going for the Jorge Masvidal fight?
“A lot better than the last fight, that’s for damn sure!” he exclaimed.
Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvial: “Last Man Standing” goes down Saturday July 6th from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Fans can watch at home for just $ 49.95.
