Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Khamzat Chimaev’s immediate future is uncertain.
The Chechen talent was forced to withdraw from his planned UFC Saudi Arabia main event versus Robert Whittaker. He was replaced by former opponent Ikram Aliskerov, who Whittaker sparked in the very first round (watch highlights). Chimaev reacted to the bout and expressed interest in rebooking the fight versus Whittaker, but the Australian is planning to act as the back up for the UFC 305 title fight between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis. Presumably, “The Reaper” is on to bigger and better things.
So, what’s next for Khamzat? We’re still a long way off from finding out his next match up, but according to the latest report, Chimaev and his team are aiming for a return at UFC 308 on October 26 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The statement reads, “Khamzat can fight at the tournament in Abu Dhabi in October. But everything will depend on his condition.”
That last sentence feels pretty important! Khamzat has battled with health issues dating back to 2020, and at one point his struggle with COVID-19 was so severe that Chimaev was considering retirement. Since then, he’s fallen ill more than once, and the severe strain training camp puts on the body seems too much for him to handle.
If Chimaev does indeed return in October, who will he fight? Whittaker or Sean Strickland would be the most high-profile option depending on which man receives the next title shot, but “Borz” may have lost ground in the title picture with the latest withdrawal. Perhaps Paulo Costa — who Chimaev was supposed to fight last year — would be an acceptably high-profile but not quite title eliminator fight? As for Abu Dhabi, Chimaev’s preference for returning there definitely adds further credence to the rumor that he’s not allowed to fight in the United States.
We’ll have to see how it all shakes out.
Insomnia
If nothing else, Jiri Prochazka’s training partner actively throwing a lot of leg kicks is good to see. It seems like switching stances more often is Prochazka’s potential answer to that problem.

Ex-BKFC champion Lorenzo Hunt was issued an 18-month suspension along with a $ 40,000 fine after he returned a positive drug test for a banned substance and elevated levels of testosterone surrounding his fight at BKFC KnuckleMania 4 in April.
Hunt’s punishment was handed down during a monthly meeting with the commission in June.
In addition to his 18-month suspension and $ 40,000 fine, which was 40 percent of Hunt’s $ 100,000 fight purse, he also has to pay $ 500 for the drug test and provide the commission with six negative full WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) panel drug tests at his expense before he’s cleared to fight in the state again.
According to documentation provided by the California State Athletic Commission to MMA Fighting, Hunt tested positive for trenbolone metabolite epitrenbolone — an anabolic steroid — and elevated testosterone levels at a ratio of 172, which is greater than the conventional threshold of 4.
As a result, Hunt requested an appeal, which led to a hearing before the commission in June, but the 41-year-old fighter failed to make an appearance. In the end, the commission ultimately handed down the suspension, fines and additional stipulations required before returning to compete again in California.
After claiming titles across multiple divisions in BKFC, Hunt relinquished his belts for the chance to go up to heavyweight challenge champion Mick Terrill.
The fight did not go his way with Hunt suffering an injury less than two minutes into the opening round, which led to a TKO victory for Terrill. The win for Terrill obviously still stands regardless of Hunt’s drug testing results.
Hunt hasn’t addressed the suspension publicly yet, but he’ll be forced to sit out until at least October 2025 before he’ll be eligible to compete again based on the suspension handed down by the commission.

Veteran color-commentator, Joe Rogan will call the action for a flagship card for a second straight event this weekend at UFC 303 during International Fight Week – joining a three-man booth, with former interim champion, Dustin Poirier taking desk analyst duty to boot.
Rogan, a veteran color-commentator, returned to the booth at UFC 302 last month – calling the action in the above-mentioned, Poirier’s fifth round D’Arce choke submission loss to pound-for-pound number one, Islam Makhachev in New Jersey.

And featuring alongside play-by-play lead, Jon Anik in the booth, Joe Rogan will also call the action with former two-weight champion and Hall of Fame inductee, Daniel Cormier – ahead of a huge light heavyweight title headliner, as per a report from MMA Junkie.

Making his first appearance since his championship fight loss to Makhachev last month, Poirier – who has been linked with a retirement from mixed martial arts defeat, will join the desk alongside former title challenger, Chael Sonnen, and iconic boxing coach, Teddy Atlas – as well as host Brendan Fitzgerald.
Also featuring at the T-Mobile Arena following the promotion’s premiere event in Saudi Arabia, fan-favorite roving reporter, Megan Olivi replaces John Gooden – and will conduct pre-fight and post-fight interviews with athletes and personalities during the card, as well as providing real-time updates.

Furthermore, veteran Octagon announcer, Bruce Buffer continues in his vein of duty following last weekend’s Riyadh event.
UFC 303 takes place this weekend from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada – with undisputed light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira taking main event honors in a rematch with Jiri Prochakza.
