Magomed Gadzhiyasulov had a good run as an amateur MMA fighter, winning two IMMAF championships in 2019, but his UFC Saudi Arabia opponent Brendson Ribeiro is unfazed by his professional achievements so far.

Since turning pro, Gadzhiyasulov has won eight straight fights, scoring knockouts in half of those matches, and earning a decision over Jose Medina in his most recent bout on Dana White’s Contender Series to secure a UFC deal. However, the combined record of his first seven opponents is 3-8, a stark contrast to the combined record (22-6) of his past two opponents, Medina and Mohamed Said Maalem.

“My team and I studied him and we saw his fights and everything, and we saw the mistakes he makes,” Ribeiro said in an interview with MMA Fighting. “We saw the opponents he fought. If we’re talking about experience, he has experience as an amateur and whatnot, but I made my professional MMA debut at age 15 and I have almost 20 fights on my Sherdog, not to mention the ones not listed there. I’m very excited for this opportunity, and I’m sure I’m more well-rounded than he is.”

Ribeiro, who also joined the UFC through the Contender Series, admits he had no idea who Gadzhiyasulov was when first offered the bout, but noted, “I don’t choose opponents.”

“I’ll fight whoever they send,” Ribeiro said. “I’m here for this. This is my work. That’s how I put food on the table. I’m sure I’ll do a great job Saturday night and I’ll bring home the win and represente my team well.”

Ribeiro trains under veteran striking coach Andre Dida at Brazilian TKO team and feels ready to stop Gadzhiyasulov on the feet, but warns the Russian competitor he has more secrets up his sleeve.

“He comes from a Muay Thai background, he’s a world champion and undefeated in MMA and has some amateur bouts, but I don’t see him as a complete fighter,” Ribeiro said. “I see he prefers to fight on the feet, and so do I, but I have jiu-jitsu as well.

“He couldn’t beat that guy on the Contender Series, and that guy didn’t have good level. He couldn’t knock him out in the first, so he came back with a completely different game in the second and third rounds, laying and praying. He won’t be able to do that to me. If he tries to take me down, I can submit him too. and I can knock him out on the feet.”

“When you talk about MMA and mixing things up, I’m one step ahead of my opponents,” he continued. “This is MMA, son. This is not pure striking or pure jiu-jitsu. This is MMA. MMA is a double-edged sword, you can either finish or get finished, but I think that by me doing MMA there, putting my hand on his face and taking him down, ground and pounding… I’ve never seen him with his back on the ground. He only stalls when he’s on the ground, and I’ll put him in danger at all times there.”

Bellator 153: Bessette v Richardson

Anyone who enters the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) squared circle had best be on their guard, and that includes the referee.

Last night (Fri., June 21, 2024), Keith Richardson (4-1) aimed to defend his Bantamweight BKFC belt opposite challenger Alberto Blas (6-0) in the co-main event of BKFC 62 from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Unfortunately for “Rockstar,” it didn’t play out that way.

Blas started strong, hurting Richardson early and continuing to pour on the punishment. Midway through the first round, Richardson was out on his feet, and referee Samuel Burgos intervened. If any proof was needed that Richardson was no longer intelligently defending himself, the next few seconds should serve as solid evidence!

After Burgos saved him, a dazed Richardson continued instinctively fighting on, swinging in combination at the referee. It didn’t seem like anything connected too cleanly, but he got off a fair few swings before cornermen and officials swarmed the ring and halted the chaos. A scary situation, but it seems as though no lasting damage was done.

At the post-fight press conference, the former champion was able to address the incident. He joked, “It’s been a long time since I’ve taken an L. Might just regroup and take another shot at the ref. Y’all saved him, he didn’t want it!”

Anderson Silva embraces Chael Sonnen after their June 15 exhibition boxing bout | Wander Roberto, Spaten Fight Night

Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen went the distance in an exhibition boxing match this past weekend in Brazil, and “The Spider” said he decided not to win the match as a “tribute” to their history.

Silva and Sonnen fought twice for the UFC middleweight championship in two of the most watched MMA clashes of all time, both ending with Silva as the winner. The duo headlined Spaten Fight Night on June 15, which was billed as Silva’s final bout on Brazilian soil.

Silva told the media after the lackluster match that knockouts weren’t allowed since it was an exhibition, and took to social media Friday to elaborate on his performance.

“I know some said the match should have been more aggressive, but each fight has its own dynamic,” Silva wrote in Portuguese. “I chose to be in the ring with an opponent so important in my history. I could have fought to win, but I preferred to do this a tribute to our history, and that’s why I didn’t win the belt.”

“We win in many ways in life, he continued, “and being beside you all that night was the biggest victory of all. It was incredible to say goodbye to the Brazilian rings with so much love. Love you.”

A ceremonial belt was presented Wednesday during a face-off in Sao Paulo, but neither fighter took it home.

Silva said after the Sonnen match that he’s currently in talks to compete in a professional boxing match in Dubai later this year, but said he wasn’t allowed to reveal the opponent.

The UFC Hall of Famer has won two of three pro boxing bouts since parting ways with the UFC in 2020, defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Tito Ortiz before losing to Jake Paul, and then going the distance in boxing exhibitions with Sonnen and Bruno Azeredo.

Conor McGregor vows to never lose another fight in the UFC amid injury setback toe

Forced from a UFC 303 return next weekend, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has vowed to win every remaining fight in his career in combat sports, after a toe injury ruled him from a comeback against Michael Chandler.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight gold holder, has been sidelined for the last three years, suffering a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat to Dustin Poirier after fracturing his left tibia and fibula in the opening round of their showdown.

Conor UFC 1 1

And slated to return at welterweight next weekend at UFC 303 during International Fight Week, McGregor withdrew from a scheduled clash with Chandler, after fracturing a toe on his left foot, expected to sideline him for a potential two month period.

Receiving flak from the likes of current lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev – who labelled him a “chicken” for wtihdrawing from UFC 303, as well as one-time scheduled foe, Rafael dos Anjos, McGregor described the injury setback as “gut-wrenching’.

Conor UFC 264 7

“Man we were so f*cking super ready for this fight it is absolutely gut-wrenching to take,” Conor McGregor posted on his official Instagram account. “I want that new Bugatti how I gone (sic) justify to myself getting that now without banking these fights. We had a lapse in concentration and engaged in a training session without wearing the full protective gear and I hit the toe off the elbow and broke the toe clean. It needs a few weeks that’s it. I couldn’t justify to my team, or fans, that I make the walk hindered again.”

“That walk has to be seen,” Conor McGregor wrote. “This next walk has got to be, and it will be, 100% Conor McGregor. The fans deserve it and we are getting close. A slight lapse in concentration and a nuisance of an injury was picked up. That’s it. Take the lesson and move forward. I will get this back, I’ve got too. I’ve got two fights left on my contract. I’ve got Bugattis and more yachts on my mind. I’m coming to shine. I gotta just take my time.”

UFC icon Conor McGregor claims Michael Chandler is 'Getting paid 10x' to fight him: 'I'm the one'

“Cos I still got yachts and Bentleys and mansions and all the rest,” Conor McGregor continued. “Ya know yaself (sic). But ya get me, I’ll be back. See ya’s soon. See ya at the top. Chandler or now. #McGtheRealBMF #McGregorForever #GoingNowhere”

Conor McGregor vows to never lose a fight again

And on social media this Saturday afternoon, McGregor vowed to both never compete whilst carrying an injury into a fight again, as well as claiming he would never suffer defeat in the remainder of his combat sports career.

“I will never enter a fight hurt again and I will never lose another fight,” Conor McGregor posted on his official X account.

Do you think Conor McGregor can remain unbeaten before his career ends?
