Brandon Moreno has plenty left to offer in the division that he’s twice held a title in.

“The Assassin Baby” put on a classy five-round performance in the main event of UFC Edmonton on Saturday, thoroughly out-striking top contender Amir Albazi en route to a unanimous decision win. The victory snapped a two-fight skid for Moreno, who came out on the wrong end of a pair of razor-thin split decisions against Alexandre Pantoja and Brandon Royval.

Though Albazi hung tough with Moreno for the duration of the contest, he could never break the two-time flyweight champion’s rhythm. Moreno buzzed in and out with accurate strikes, bloodying Albazi’s face and handing him a loss in his first fight in over 500 days.

Fighters watching Saturday’s headliner marveled at Moreno’s performance, while also mentioning that the canvas was oddly slippery.

Highlights! Jasudavicius Delivers Slick Anaconda Choke

by Site Admin ~ November 2nd, 2024

UFC Fight Night: Da Silva v Jasudavicius

Jasmine Jasudavicius delivered the biggest win of her career earlier tonight (Sat., Nov. 2, 2024) at UFC Edmonton live on ESPN+ from inside Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, when the Canadian flyweight stopped veteran Ariane da Silva with a third-round anaconda choke.

Da Silva came into this fight the betting underdog but she looked good early on. The Brazilian was quick on her feet as she landed combinations to the head and body. Jasudavicius channeled her wrestling for a late-round takedown, but the first five minutes went to da Silva.

Jasudavicius went back to the well in Round 2 with another takedown and minutes of top time. She unloaded countless punches on the ground (some to the back of the head) that put da Silva on the brink of defeat. Da Silva hung in tough and made it to the end of the round, but the writing was on the wall.

In the third round, Jasudavicius found another opportunity to take the fight to the ground. This time, the Canadian fighter put her ground-and-pound aside to work for the submission finish. Jasudavicius got her wish and secured a tight anaconda choke. Da Silva defended just for a few seconds before tapping and giving the fans the stoppage they wanted.

Check out the submission finish in the above video player.

UFC Fight Night: Barriault v Stoltzfus

When UFC Edmonton needed a moment to reinvigorate the crowd, it was Dustin Stoltzfus who delivered it.

Stoltzfus faced Canadian middleweight Marc-Andre Barriault on the main card of Saturday’s Fight Night event in Edmonton, Canada. Stoltzfus looked great early, nearly submitting Barriault with a choke, but after Barriault managed to get the fight back to the feet, a frantic exchange began. Both fighters were landing, but it was Stoltzfus who scored an obliterating short right hand that knocked Barriault out cold.

Check out the wild finish in the video below.

After losing his first three octagon appearances, Stoltzfus is a winner in three of his past five outings, which includes a stoppage win over Punahele Soriano, and a decision win against Dwight Grant. Stoltzfus entered the fight as a significant underdog, but will likely take home a post-fight bonus for his incredible knockout.

Barriault has now lost three straight, and has been knocked out in the first round in back-to-back fights.

After his winning streak was snapped in his last outing, Mike Malott is now back in the green column after getting the better of Trevin Giles as part of the UFC Edmonton main card.

The first round didn’t bring a lot of activity, with Malott controlling the action. The Canadian continued to control the action in the second, picking up his pacing toward the end. Giles, meanwhile, seemed to be unable or unwilling to pull the trigger.

“Proper” had a notable kick-based attack in the third round, doing damage to Giles’ body and legs. The American, however, did land some significant shots that busted up Malott’s face some.

Ultimately, the home favorite took a decision, sweeping the scorecards after three rounds of action that failed to impress the MMA masses.

After entering the UFC with a win over Shimon Smotritsky on Dana White’s Contender Series, Malott earned victories against Mickey Gall, Yohan Lainesse, and Adam Fugitt before a loss to Neil Magny at UFC 297.

Giles, meanwhile, has now lost three straight fights.
