UFC Fight Night: Whittaker v Aliskerov OfficialWeigh-in

Robert Whittaker is one step closer to a chance to regain the middleweight title.

The former champion was the first fighter to step to the scale at Friday’s official weigh-ins for UFC Saudi Arabia, which took place at 2 a.m. ET (9 a.m. local time in Riyadh), and he made weight at 186 pounds for Saturday’s non-title headliner. Short-notice opponent Ikram Aliskerov also successfully made weight, coming in at 184 pounds.

Aliskerov steps in on a week’s notice as a replacement for an ill Khamzat Chimaev after originally being scheduled to fight in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 93 this past Saturday.

All 22 fighters competing at UFC Saudi Arabia successfully made weight, which had to be a relief for officials after seeing several previously scheduled bouts on the lineup altered or cancelled.

The only notable weigh-in-related drama occurred during media day earlier this week, when Kelvin Gastelum revealed that he was having trouble making the 170-pound limit. Gastelum recently returned to welterweight, a division that he previously left due to the difficulty of the weight cuts. Saturday’s bout was changed to a middleweight bout, per a request from Gastelum’s team according to opponent Daniel Rodriguez.

Both Gastelum (184.5) and Rodriguez (184) successfully made weight.

See official UFC Saudi Arabia weigh-in results below.

Ryan Garcia hit with one year suspension for failed drug test win against Devin Haney now no contest

According to reports tonight, former WBC interim lightweight champion, Ryan Garcia has received a one-year suspension after reacting a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission, after failing a drug-test in relation to his now-official ‘No Contest’ bout with Devin Haney earlier this year at the Barclays Center.

As per an initial report from boxing correspondent, Dan Rafael, professional boxing star, Garcia reached a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission, and will serve a one-year suspension from the sport, as well as seeing his decision win over former world champion, Haney overturned to an official No Contest’.

Ryan Garcia tests positive for banned PED ostarine after stunning upset win over Devin Haney

Ryan Garcia hit with lengthy suspension

“BREAKING: Ryan Garcia/legal team have made settlement agreement with NYSAC,” Rafael posted on his X account. “He has agreed to the following: suspension of at least 1 year; forfeiture of his $ 1.1M official contract pursue (goes to GB, Hanye may get %) $ 10k fine (state max); fight officially a no contest.”

Initially landing a stunning decision win over multi-time amateur boxing foe, Haney earlier this year in April, Garcia was notified of a potential anti-doping violation – with test samples provided by him containing the banned substance, ostarine.

Reacting to the news of his suspension and the ruling of his victory over Haney to a now-official ‘No Contest’, the hugely outspoken Garcia claimed he would pursue a change change to mixed martial arts and compete in the UFC.

“I’m headed to the UFC,” Ryan Garcia posted on his official X account.

Protesting his innocence despite reports revealing he and his legal team had struck a settlement with the state athletic commission, Garcia claimed the sport of boxing had turned it’s back on him.

“I really hope boxing good without me,” Ryan Garcia posted.”I fought everyone and was willing to. They have turned there back on me. I’m innocent. I stand by that I don’t care what everyone says. Gun yo (sic) my head I say I didn’t take PEDs.”

What are your thoughts on Ryan Garcia’s settlement with the NYSAC?

Devin Haney v Ryan Garcia - Weigh-in
Ryan Garcia | Photo by Cris Esqueda/Golden Boy/Getty Images

Ryan Garcia won’t be fighting again anytime soon even if he wants to.

Boxing reporter Dan Rafael broke the news Thursday that Garcia will receive a minimum one-year suspension from competition as part of a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission after he tested positive for banned substances following an April 20 bout against rival Devin Haney. Rafael also reports that Garcia forfeits his official contract purse to Golden Boy Promotions, totaled at $ 1.1 million, and he must pay a state fine of $ 10,000.

Perhaps worst of all for Garcia, his dramatic majority decision win over Haney has officially been overturned to a no-contest. Haney sees his undefeated record restored to 31-0, while Garcia’s reverts back to 24-1.

The report comes a day after Garcia announced his retirement from on social media, the culmination of months of erratic behavior exhibited by the 25-year-old boxer. Garcia tweeted out a number of outlandish claims on his social media accounts and eventually showed up to the Haney fight three pounds over the limit for their bout, which forced him to pay Haney a $ 600,000 penalty and made him ineligible to win Haney’s WBC super lightweight title.

Garcia impressed in the contest, knocking Haney down three times en route to a win on two of the three judges’ scorecards. A win that has now been scratched from the record books.

Haney reacted to the news on Twitter, thanking the commission for their decision but questioning the decision for Golden Boy to receive the fight purse.

“Thank you too the commission for doing the right thing & making the right decision. I don’t understand how Golden Boy is getting any money as if they took any punches. They haven’t even spoke out about this PED situation.”

On the other side, Garcia’s team issued a statement denying that the fighter has ever knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs:

Ryan Garcia was a victim of substance contamination, with levels measured in the billions and trillions of a gram, which provided no advantage whatsoever in the ring.

Ryan, with his legal team, has resolved this issue and firmly maintains his truth: he never intentionally took any banned substance. It’s simply not in his nature.

For many years, Ryan has voluntarily submitted to random testing, even during out-of-competition periods, and has never had any issues. He has maintained an impeccable and clean record throughout his career, significantly elevating and transcending the sport of boxing, earning respect and admiration from millions of fans worldwide.

The fans will always remember his performance against Haney as a masterclass, and that will never be erased.

Ryan will continue to elevate the sport and will be actively involved in advocating for reform. We hope future changes in our system will address issues like this one.

We want to thank all of the fans who have continued to support Ryan, not only during the great moments but also through the difficult times that life brings. He will be back in the ring soon and better than ever!

Garcia’s team has argued that the fighter’s positive drug tests are the result of contaminated supplements.

Then Garcia himself took to Twitter to respond directly to the report, maintaining that he never cheated, vowing to come back when his suspension is over, and teasing a move to the UFC.
