Undefeated middleweight Khamzat Chimaev (13-0) was scheduled to headline next week’s UFC Saudi Arabia fight card against former champion Robert Whittaker (25-7). The bout had monumental consequences in the division with the winner potentially securing a title shot.
Unfortunately, Chimaev was forced to withdraw from the event due to illness. UFC CEO Dana White announced the news via social media video and revealed Whittaker’s new opponent.
“Khamzat Chimaev is out of the fight next weekend in Saudi Arabia. Violently, and I mean violently ill,” White said in the video. “So, he’s going back home and hopefully the gets well soon.”

With Chimaev out of the fight, White announced his replacement. Rising prospect Ikram Aliskerov (15-1) will step in against Whittaker in the headlining matchup.
“Who is Ikram Aliskerov? This guy is 15 and 1. His only loss in his 16-fight pro career is to Khamzat Chimaev,” White said. “This dude is a legit contender in only his third UFC fight… He’s on a seven-fight win streak. We offered everybody in the division this fight. Nobody would take it except for Robert Whittaker.”
UFC Saudia Arabia takes place at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. It’s the promotion’s debut event in the Arabia Peninsula.

Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Alex Pereira is unexpectedly just 14 days removed from his scheduled second title defense.
At the very last minute, Pereira has agreed to step in for the injured Conor McGregor, rematching Jiri Prochazka for the scheduled second defense of his Light Heavyweight crown. “Poatan” is not supposed to be fighting in two weeks; he’s been on a seminar tour in Australia promoting himself and recovering from broken toes. Nevertheless, he’s agreed to step up and save the UFC 303 card, risking it all on short-notice.
That’s why he’s a star!
In the clip above (taken from Pereira’s YouTube channel), Pereira can be seen talking with his manager on the phone. “Poatan” doesn’t take long to accept the fight, quickly agreeing — CHAMA! — and saying that he’s been training while working on his trip. Pereira’s team learns the news as well, and they’re immediately excited for their pupil.
This is not the first time Alex Pereira has stepped up to headline a UFC event on short-notice. The first time Pereira and Prochazka fought was at UFC 295 in Madison Square Garden, and the duo replaced Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic as main event after Jones’ pectoral injury. Then, Pereira stepped up to headline UFC 300 when UFC couldn’t line up another worthy main event, but his bout versus Jamahal Hill was initially planned for UFC 301.
Hopefully, “Poatan” is getting paid well for continually stepping up to save the day. It’s certainly building his legend in the eyes of most fans!

Silva, 49, is 3-2 as a pro boxer, having beaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Tito Ortiz since stepping away from MMA in 2021. He lost to Jake Paul via decision in his most recent bout.
Sonnen, 47, is making his boxing debut.
Check out Silva vs. Sonnen results below.
Main card (Globo at 8 p.m. ET):
Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen — exhibition boxing
Alex Pereira has definitive plans to “rest” for some time ahead of his short-notice return at UFC 303 this month, however, still wants to fight in December of this year – if not November in another return to Madison Square Garden.
Pereira, a former undisputed middleweight champion and the current light heavyweight gold holder, is slated to return in less than two weeks time at UFC 303 during International Fight Week – taking on former champion, Jiri Prochazka in a short-notice rematch.
Replacing an injury-stricken, Conor McGregor, Pereira returns after headlining UFC 300 as recent as April, landing a devastating opening round knockout win over the returning, Jamahal Hill – emerging unscathed from the title fight.
And sharing his thoughts on his decision to take on Prochazka in a short-notice rematch, Pereira appears more than confident, claiming his “ancestors” will guide him into battle in Las Vegas against the former champion.
“I understand that this fight [with Jiri Prochazka] is very close and there may be difficultes with the lead up time BUT if there is somebody that can make this happen it is me!” Alex Pereira posted on his official Instagram account. ‘POATAN!”
“This is why I am one of the biggest names in the UFC, Alex Pereira!” Alex Pereira continued. “I take risks that not one other person would be willing to take but I know I have my ancestors with me. The spirits are with me and I’m ready for it all.”
Alex Pereira plans to “rest a little” after his UFC 303 return
Furthermore, Sao Paulo knockout artist, Pereira confirmed he would likely have to miss a planned UFC 305 return in August in Australia, however, still wants to fight in either November of December in a third outing this annum.
“Now I think it will be a lot of things,” Alex Pereira said on his YouTube channel about the possibility of fighting at UFC 305. “Got to focus on this fight. I don’t know what will happen after. But I also want to rest a little. I have time to fight til the end of the year. Til December, November – December.”
“Who knows? In Madison Square Garden: a spot where I feel very good at,” Alex Pereira explained. “There’s time, I had my doubts. If I do the August one, I want to do an end of year one [fight]. But now it’s possible. I put it in my head I can do it because I have time for it. Yes, we were talking in respect to August in Australia. I would love it. …”
Are you excited to see Alex Pereira fight at UFC 303 this month?
After several call-outs, Canelo Alvarez has finally agreed to a potential legacy fight against the undefeated Terence Crawford.
Crawford climbed to 40-0 last time out, earning a one-sided victory in another super-fight against Errol Spence Jr. For the months following his all-timer performance, the 36-year-old has been targeting a fight with the Mexican icon–and it now seems that the interest is mutual.
While discussing the possibility of the fight, Canelo Alvarez changed his mindset on colliding with Terence Crawford. After originally not being sold on the prospect, Canelo is now open to the idea of the bout.
“Crawford is a great fighter, obviously, [but he’s] three divisions below,” Canelo said while attending a No Golf, No Life presentation. “As I’ve said before, I’ve fought bigger guys in my category, smaller guys, older guys, younger guys.”
“At the end of the day, I was born to fight and I’ll fight anyone, obviously on terms that suit me best.”
“At this point in my career I’ll always make the best fights but they have to benefit me. It depends on the money, but why not?” [h/t Second Scout]
Canelo Alvarez showed his class last time out. Just last month, the North American earned a dominant decision victory over his fellow countryman Jaime Munguía.
Munguía posed a knockout threat heading into the bout, but it was Canelo who landed the damaging blows.

Despite showing keen interest in the aforementioned super-fight, Terrance Crawford has an upcoming brawl to worry about.
‘Bud’ will step in against the promising European talent, Israil Madrimov. While he has an impressive 10-0-1 record, Madrimov is the much less experienced fighter and will enter the ring as the underdog.
If all goes to plan for Terence Crawford, the Canelo matchup can begin to unfold following his next outing. Crawford is set to step into the squared circle on August 3.
