UFC 292: Sterling v O’Malley

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley had quite the unexpected weekend on his gaming live stream.

“About an hour and a half in [to my stream], I saw a f*cking cop fly down the road,” O’Malley said Monday on the TimboSugar Show. “I feel like instantly I kind of knew, because I’ve heard about [some of the] big, big streamers getting swatted — people find out where they’re at, then call the cops, and say something happened that obviously didn’t happen, and then they’re f*cking getting swatted.

“So I peek out my head out the window to see, maybe the cops were [busy] … maybe it was something else. But then they’re on the intercom, and I see a bunch of cops, and they’re like, ‘Walk out with your hands up.’ So I f*cking walk out, hands up.

“I was like, I’m just going to listen. I could get shot, you know what I mean? Like, sh*t,” O’Malley continued. “I was like, if I just listen to them, I’ll be all right. But you never know — someone sneezes, pulls the trigger. I’ve got shotguns pointed at me, like ARs from like four different cops pointing at me, and I was like, ‘I’m just going to listen,’ and f*cking walk back.

“I was sitting in the back of the cop car with handcuffs, and I was like, ‘Dude, that’s crazy. I had freedom five minutes ago, now I have none. Zero.’ And I’m like, ‘F*ck, I didn’t even do anything wrong.’”

O’Malley successfully defended his bantamweight championship with a dominant decision win over Marlon Vera in the main event of UFC 299 in March. “Sugar” won the title after knocking out Aljamain Sterling in the second round at UFC 292 this past August in Boston, and is expected to face Sterling’s longtime teammate Merab Dvalishvili in his next bout.

The 29-year-old rising star already was dealing with the weirdness of the situation, then was told what he was being suspected of doing from the call to local police.

“They said I killed my parents, or something like that,” O’Malley said. “Yeah, they thought there was an active shooter inside, like, ‘Who is inside?’ I was like, ‘No, I was just gaming.’ … Someone called and said there was an active shooter inside, and two dead people in the house or something.

“[The police said the caller referenced] my address. Little f*ck, I wish we could find that little weasel that called them. They can’t find him. But it was crazy.”

O’Malley was ultimately let go, and now the unexpected chaos will serve as an interesting story to tell for years to come.

Leon Edwards welcomes title clash with Conor McGregor at UFC 309 in MSG that's the fight

While incumbent heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has leaked he will likely make his return at UFC 309 in November in the promotion’s comeback to Madison Square Garden, undisputed welterweight kingpin, Leon Edwards is ready to stack the main card in a historic showdown with former two-division best, Conor McGregor.

Edwards, the current undisputed welterweight gold holder, is himself slated to make his return at UFC 304 in late July, headlining the organization’s return to Manchester in a rematch against surging contender, Belal Muhammad.

And ahead of UFC 304, Edwards has suggested that should he topple Muhammad, and McGregor beat Chandler, why don’t the pair feature at Madison Square Garden in New York – offering the Dubliner a chance to become a first-ever three-weight champion in the promotion.

“That’d be good, that’d be good, you know,” Leon Edwards told MMA Fighting of a fight with Conor McGregor. “It would be good to give him the opportunity – yeah, 100 percent, why not? I feel like let’s give him the opportunity to become [a] three-division world champion, [and] give me an opportunity to take out a guy like Conor (McGregor). You know, New York – that would be perfect.”

“That is the fight, you know,” Leon Edwards explained. “He goes out there and takes out Michael (Chandler), I take out ‘No One Remembers His Name’ and we’ll go from there. We’ll go to New York – MSG, let’s go. That’s the fight. That’s the fight, that’s the fight, I feel. You know, two of us have business to take care of. That’s the fight, that needs to happen. It should happen.”

On Saturday, UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley had some lunch and went home to play video games and begin a live stream.  An hour or so in, police arrived at O’Malley’s home with guns drawn.

It turns out O’Malley was ‘swatted’ by a fellow gamer.  Someone called the authorities and falsely reported a horrific crime and gave the police O’Malley’s address.

“About an hour and a half in I saw a f**king cop fly down my road.  I feel like instantly I kind of knew because I’ve heard about like the big, big streamers getting swatted,” O’Malley explained on his YouTube channel.  “People find out where they’re at and called the cops and say something happened that obviously didn’t happen and they’re f**king getting swatted.

“I peak out my head out the window to see the cops.  Maybe it’s something else.  But then they’re on the intercom and I see a bunch of cops and they’re like, ‘walk out with your hands up.’  So I f**king walk out, hands up.  I was like, I’m just going listen.  I could get shot.  You know what I mean?  Like, sh*t.  I was like, okay, if I just listen to them I’ll be alright, but you never know.  Someone sneezes and pulls the trigger.  I’ve got f**king shotguns pointed at me, ARs from like four different cops pointed at me.”

O’Malley had in fact been swatted.  Someone called the police and told them that O’Malley had murdered his parents and was armed inside the home.

“They said I killed my parents, or something like that.  They thought there was an active shooter inside,” O’Malley said.  “Someone called the cops and told them there was an active shooter inside and two dead people in the house.”

“I wish we could find that little weasel that called.  They can’t find him.  They don’t have an address.  It was crazy.”

“Went home, I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m gonna stream today,’” O’Malley said on The Timbo Sugar Show. “Streaming, about an hour and a half in I see a f*ckin cop fly down my road.”

“I feel like instantly I kinda knew because I’ve heard about like Adin [Ross], and the big streamers getting swatted. People find out where they’re at and they call the cops, say something happened that obviously didn’t happen and then they’re f*cking getting swatted.”

“So, I peek out my head out the window to see if maybe it’s something else. But then they’re on the intercom and I see a bunch of cops and they’re like, ‘Walk out with your hands up.’ So I f*ckin walk out, hands up.”

UFC 296: Edwards v Covington
Leon Edwards | Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images

Leon Edwards is ready to get past Belal Muhammad and onto the rest of his welterweight title reign.

Edwards defends his title against Muhammad in the main event of UFC 304 on July 27 at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester. The fight is a long time in the making, with Muhammad relentlessly attacking Edwards through the media, calling for his title shot. Now that’s it’s finally here, Edwards is just as excited, because he can finally move on to other business.

“One hundred percent, the guy has been a nuisance on social media for the longest,” Edwards said Monday on The MMA Hour when asked about his excitement for UFC 304. “So 100 percent. I’ve been trying to fight Belal now for a while. I got asked for [UFC] 300, I said yes to everyone. Three opponents, said yes. I even said, ‘What about Belal?’ And they were like, ‘No. [Laughs.]’ It wasn’t an option.

“I was like, I’ll fight whoever, because I know the card is such a huge card. It would have been great for my career. So I would fight whoever there is. And after [Islam Makhachev, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Khamzat Chimaev] said no, I was like, ‘What about Belal?’ They didn’t entertain it. So it is what it is.”

Edwards and Muhammad have some history as the two fought each other three years ago at a Fight Night event in London. That bout ended in unfortunate circumstances when an eye poke from Edwards rendered Muhammad unable to continue, leading to a no-contest. Muhammad lobbied for an immediate rematch, but instead Edwards went on his title run, claiming the belt and defending it twice. Meanwhile, Muhammad has won five in a row at welterweight and has relentlessly called for his rematch, guaranteeing his own victory and trashing Edwards at every turn. But Edwards doesn’t see it.

“When has Belal ever did that to anybody?” Edwards said, laughing at Muhammad’s trash talk. “He’s just talking. I’ll let him talk and let him make his little memes and his little tweets, but everyone knows he ain’t on my level. That’s just the facts of it. He has improved. So have I. There’s levels to the game and I truly believe I’m levels above him. Come July, I’ll show that.”

And he intends to do so in spectacular fashion. If there’s been a knock on Edwards during his UFC career, it’s the lack of finishes. Edwards only has four finishes of his 14 UFC victories, but “Rocky” intends to up that number come July.

“I need a finish. I feel like anything short of a finish is no good enough,” Edwards said. “All this shit this guy talked on social media, the f*cking Tweets, the t-shirts, he deserves it. He deserves an ass-whooping. I feel like he’s going to get his ass whooped. I’ve never lost a fight in the U.K. I’ve never lost on home turf. I bring that confidence with me, I bring the confidence of being a champion with me, and he’s just too easy to hit. He can improve all he wants, he’s too easy to hit. His head is right there. He’s just there and he’s going to get hit and get hit a lot. I want to take him out.”

Once that’s done, it’s on to new business.

Still only 32 years old, the No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world according to the MMA Fighting Global Rankings says he is just getting started.

“I feel like I get Belal out of the way — all the wrestling phase is kind of going,” Edwards said. “It was [Kamaru] Usman, then it was Colby [Covington], then it was him. … The rest of it is strikers, which is lovely. Get these wrestlers out the way and just crack on with my career. I feel like I have a lot more to do. I truly feel I haven’t done nothing yet and there’s so much more I want to accomplish and do in this sport. I’m focused and driven and I cannot wait to accomplish it.”
