“Poatan” might star in a movie as a villain.
Today (Tues., Oct. 24, 2024), The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira is in talks to join Onslaught, which will be directed by Adam Wingard.
Onslaught is described as a “gonzo action horror thriller,” and the only other details about the plot are that “a mother falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base.”
Pereira, who would be making his acting debut, will play a “character called The Butcher, and bring his set of skills to the role — including anaconda chokes and roundhouse kicks,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
If Pereira does end up getting the role, he will join the solid list of UFC fighters who have decided to put the gloves down (for a few months) and pick up a script, such as Conor McGregor, Rampage Jackson, Khalil Rountree Jr., Kamaru Usman, and Michael Bisping.
Just this year, Sharaputdin Magomedov got the call from Hollywood to star in a movie as a villain.
UFC savior, superstar, two-division champion, actor – what more can “Poatan” do?
Anyway, if you don’t know who the director of his upcoming movie is, I highly advise you to go watch The Guest and You’re Next immediately. Godzilla vs. Kong was kind of enjoyable, but I definitely recommend staying away from Death Note and Blair Witch (remake).

Dustin Poirier is not convinced by something Ilia Topuria has stated ahead of Topuria’s featherweight title fight at UFC 308 this Saturday. Topuria believes he is capable of knocking out Max Holloway with a single punch, but Poirier has expressed skepticism. Topuria’s confidence is undeniable—he has even suggested that it will be an easy feat. However, given Holloway’s elite caliber, Poirier doubts such a claim.
While appearing on The Bohnfire podcast with MMA Junkie senior reporter Mike Bohn, Poirier analyzed the matchup.
Dustin Poirier’s Dismissal
“To go out there and one-punch Max is going to be almost impossible, I think,” Poirier said. “It can happen, for sure. But I don’t think it will. This is a big test. If [Topuria] goes in there and beats Max, or lasts with Max in the volume game, outpoints him, outfights him technically on the feet—that’s going to say so much about Ilia and where he’s going to go. I can’t pick against Max. I could see Topuria winning, but Max’s experience and the championship fights he’s been in… it’s hard to bet against that.”
Holloway, the former featherweight champion, has won 5 of his 15 victories by knockout, including his most recent performance when he knocked out Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298.

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira is crossing over to Hollywood with his first major acting role booked in upcoming film directed by Adam Wingard, who is also responsible for Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Pereira is expected to portray the villain in the movie Onslaught, which is described as a “gonzo action horror thriller” with DNA similar to some of Wingard’s early films such as You’re Next and The Guest. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the casting news with additional sources confirming Pereira’s casting to MMA Fighting on Thursday.
Pereira is expected to star alongside Adria Arjona (Hit Man) playing “a mother who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base,”
Pereira plays that threat as a character called The Butcher and he’s expected to incorporate some of his fighting skills in the featured role for the project.
Wingard is set to direct Onslaught with a script from longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, who just recently penned the screenplay for the Samara Weaving led horror film Azrael. The film is being produced by A24, Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company.
The role is a first for Pereira, who has quickly become one of the biggest stars on the entire UFC roster after he conquered both the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions in record time. Most recently, Pereira dispatched Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307, which was the third defense of his title in 2024.
Following the fight, Pereira said he had some commitments to fulfill but hoped to return to action in early 2024. It appears playing a villain in the upcoming film Onslaught is one of those obligations now.
