Serghei Spivac bounced back in the win column impressively as he became the first fighter to ever submit Marcin Tybura in the main event of UFC Vegas 95 — while getting back one of his early UFC losses in the process. Following the quick submission win, where does Spivac go, and was it enough to save one of the toughest-to-watch fight cards of the year?
MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and Eric Jackman react to Saturday’s Fight Night event at the APEX, Spivac’s tremendous performance, and Jailton Almeida calling him out post-fight. Additionally, topics include whether or not the event was the UFC’s worst of the year, the bright spots on the card including Youssef Zalal, the awful scorecard in Danny Barlow’s split decision win over Nikolay Veretennikov, and much more.

Serghei Spivac vs. Marcin Tybura squared off in a Heavyweight contest earlier tonight (Sat. Aug. 10, 2024) at UFC Vegas 95 from UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Spivac started the fight strong, showing off surprisingly fast hands. Those punches set up a slick transition to the back clinch and subsequent takedown. Tybura showed off his experience with a smart reversal into top position. That veteran move put Tybura in a good position to control his opponent, but Spivac flipped the script by throwing up a quick armbar!
Seconds later, Tybura was flipped over and forced to tap.
In an instant, Spivac avenged an early career loss with this smooth armbar. Prior to the submission, his hands looked fast and his wrestling effective — that’s a solid performance! If nothing else, this victory demonstrated serious improvement from the first fight back in 2020, which saw Tybura win pretty much every aspect of the fight.
It’s important to remember the Moldovan is just 29 years of age, which is very young for a Heavyweight contender. He’s suffered some tough losses to the division’s elite, but he could still develop into a title threat given a couple years of improvement.
“Polar Bear” remains one to watch.
Result: Spivac defeats Tybura via first-round armbar

This is the UFC Vegas 95 live blog for Marcin Tybura vs. Serghei Spivac, the main event heavyweight rematch on Saturday at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
A former M-1 heavyweight champion, Tybura has been a staple of the UFC’s heavyweight division since 2016, amassing a 12-7 record in the organization, with notable wins over Andrei Arlovski, Ben Rothwell, and a host of others. Most recently, Tybura submitted Tai Tuivasa in March to move up to No. 8 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, and he looks to make it two in a row against Spivac.
Currently ranked No. 10, Spivac is still only 29 years old and on a terrific run since losing to Tybura in 2020. Since then, Spivac is 6-2 with his losses coming against interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall and former interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane. He hopes to avenge his previous loss to Tybura as he tries to work his way to a title shot.

Two weeks after the UFC’s public release of Muhammad Mokaev following UFC 304, the drama involving the undefeated flyweight continues.
Mokaev posted a message to his X (formerly Twitter) account on August 10, giving a thank you message to other promotions, including the PFL, Brave CF, RIZIN, Karate Combat, and ACA.
Mokaev claimed that the organizations all reached out to him and he is contemplating his next move — with one ultimate goal in mind that does not involve any of them.
“I appreciate [you] for believing in me, now I will sit down with my team and take the best option not on money wise but that could let me go back to the UFC ASAP!” Mokaev posted.
PFL Executive Claims The Promotion Never Reached Out To Muhammad Mokaev
Hours after Mokaev’s message, former Bellator matchmaker and current PFL executive Mike Kogan took to his Instagram Stories to refute “The Punisher’s” claim. Kogan insisted that the PFL is not among those who have contacted Mokaev.
“This story is a lie – no one from PFL or Bellator spoke to the dude or even showed an [ounce] of interest,” Kogan posted.
Kogan’s message would go along the comments Ray Sefo made last week at the PFL post-fight press conference in Nashville, where he remarked that Mokaev was a “pain in the ass” and that he had no interest in him.
It should be noted, however, that Sefo is a part of Xtreme Couture, where Manel Kape trains at. “Starboy” and Mokaev had public altercations in the lead-up to their UFC 304 bout, which the Dagestan-born Brit ultimately won in a fight that was heavily scrutinized and widely branded lackluster.
At the UFC 304 post-fight press conference, UFC CEO Dana White publicly announced that Mokaev would not be re-signed by the promotion, stating that the PFL would get a great undefeated talent.
MMA commentator Ben “The Bane” Davis would go on to report an anonymous tip he received that Mokaev attempted to use PFL for contractual leverage prior to the expiration of his UFC contract.
Davis’ report was refuted by Mokaev’s team, though “The Punisher’s” response to Sefo on social media — claiming he wouldn’t take the PFL’s deal anyway — has sparked confusion regarding the situation.

It certainly wasn’t pretty, but the Toshiomi Kazama vs. Charalampos Grigoriou got pretty wild in the second round.
The bantamweight bout was the opening main card bout at UFC Vegas 95 on Saturday at the APEX. After Kazama delivered a wrestling and grappling-heavy first round — taking his opponent’s back for much of the stanza — Grigoriou came out on fire in Round 2, dropping Kazama and delivering huge ground-and-pound, but Kazama was able to survive.
He didn’t just survive, he secured a beautiful triangle choke, forcing Grigoriou to submit to cap off the wild fight.
Check out the closing moments in the video below.

— MMA Fighting (@MMAFighting) August 10, 2024
The official time of the stoppage was 1:55 into Round 2.
Kazama was potentially fighting for his job on the UFC roster as he entered the fight as a massive underdog. The 27-year-old was stopped in both of his octagon appearances prior to the biggest win of his career.
Grigoriou is now 0-2 as a UFC fighter after earning a contract on the Contender Series.
