The Ultimate Fighter Season 31: Team McGregor vs. Team Chandler

Michael Chandler has had it with Conor McGregor.

In the latest social media back-and-forth between the UFC stars, Chandler responded to a cryptic video from McGregor, warning him that he “Can’t wait to bounce your ‘champ champ’ head off the canvas’ and telling McGregor to “get your sh*t together so I can.”

See Chandler’s message to McGregor below.

In McGregor’s since-deleted video, the former two-division UFC champion appeared to be taunting Chandler on board a boat. McGregor grinned mischievously into the camera and then switched hats, putting on one that said “Champ Champ,” with the Sam Cooke song A Change is Gonna Come playing in the background.

Not long after the video was initially posted, Chandler shared his response.

See more from the UFC lightweight contender below.

Chandler and McGregor have been embroiled in a bitter feud for the better part of the past two years, with Chandler frequently using interviews to call for a fight with McGregor. The two were later matched up as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 31, which aired in 2023. A bout was expected to be booked following the conclusion of that series, but it wasn’t until 2024 that they were set to meet at UFC 303.

Unfortunately, a toe injury prompted McGregor to withdraw from the June 29 pay-per-view and the bout has been in limbo since. Both fighters have discussed the possibility of a re-booking with varying degrees of assurance, but as of now nothing has been made official.

McGregor has not competed since a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. The 36-year-old suffered a broken leg in that fight that sidelined him for over a year and he has also spent time pursuing other opportunities, including a starring role in the recent Road House remake.

‘Very Big’ DDP Dismisses Middleweight Makhachev

by Site Admin ~ August 10th, 2024

Dricus du Plessis is gearing up for a title defense against former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya next weekend at UFC 305, but “Stillknocks” might have to look out for Islam Makhachev after that.

Earlier this week, Makhachev’s head coach, Javier Mendez, teased a potential move up to middleweight for the reigning UFC lightweight champion. Of course, Makhachev still has some unfinished business at lightweight and after that he would have to knock off the champion at welterweight, but Mendez believes Makhachev is the pound-for-pound best for a reason.

That said, Makhachev would be noticeably undersized if he ever decided to make a move to 185 pounds. Waiting for him would be a hulking champion like du Plessis, who is one of the larger fighters in the middleweight division. He also hasn’t lost since entering the promotion back in 2020, turning in a 7-0 UFC record en route to capturing the undisputed title.

Earlier this week, du Plessis was asked about Makhachev and how he’d fair in a huge move up two weight classes. The reigning UFC middleweight champion scoffed at the idea as he believes the lightweight king would simply be too small.

“I mean what can I say? Everybody can dream right, I always say never cap your dreams, dream big, but he’s dreaming real big. I’m very big,” du Plessis told Kevin Iole.

If both du Plessis and Makhachev keep winning long enough to actually meet inside of the cage does Islam even stand a chance? Or is du Plessis simply too big of a fighter?

WRESTLING-OLY-PARIS-2024
Catalina Axente and Kennedy Blades | Photo by PUNIT PARANJPE/AFP via Getty Images

Kennedy Blades landed one of the crazies throws in Olympic history on her run to the gold.

During her opening round match Sunday in the 76g competition against Cătălina Axente from Romania, Blades—a 20-year-old phenom from Chicago, jumped behind her opponent, grabbed a body lock and launched Axente into the air before bringing her crashing back down to the canvas. The five-point suplex earned a huge reaction from the Paris crowd as the throw ended the match with Kennedy winning 11-0 on technical superiority (a 10-point lead in freestyle ends the match).

Kennedy couldn’t celebrate, however, with Axente remaining motionless on the mat following the stunning throw. Medical personnel tended to Axente, who was eventually removed from the floor on a stretcher where she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Following that win, Blades defeated Milaimys Marin from Cuba in a tight 4-3 score to move onto the semifinals where she defeated Aiperi Medet Kyzy from Kyrgyzstan 8-6 to claim her spot in the gold medal match.

It’s a strong start for Blades, who was the second youngest member of the U.S. Olympic wrestling team behind only 2024 gold medalist Amit Elor, who is just four months younger. Blades is coached by Izzy Martinez, one of the most prominent MMA coaches known for working with numerous fighters including Jon Jones and Holly Holm.

Holm was in attendance on Saturday to show her support as Blades seeks to become the third woman from the U.S. team to win gold following Elor and Sarah Hildebrandt.

Blades faces Yuka Kagami from Japan in the finals on Sunday.

Jake Paul Looking to Box in the Olympics: ‘Gold medal, you’re mine’

Now eleven fights deep into his professional boxing career, the polarizing, Jake Paul has confirmed plan to make a somewhat surprising outing in an amateur format – in the form of a trip to the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California – in search of a gold medal win.

Paul, who most recently featured against former UFC welterweight challenger, and BFKC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) star, Mike Perry, turned in an impressive win over the Michigan striker, courtesy of a sixth round knockout win.

Expected to return and take on former world heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson before the end of the year, Paul also called for a matchup alongside current UFC light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira next to boot.

Jake Paul plans Olympic Games move in 2028

And amid this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, France – Ohio native, Paul has suggested he make a spectacular appearance at the next edition of the summer games, in Los Angeles – vowing to take home the gold medal.

Jake Paul wants 'Tougher challenge' than Conor McGregor

“I’m going to enter the 2028 Olympics for boxing in Los Angeles,” Jake Paul said on his YouTube channel. “I’m sick and tired of waiting for another gold medal for Team USA. I’m not retiring. I probably just added a couple of years onto my boxing career because of that. Gold medal, you’re mine, brother.”

“Being a world champion is first and foremost, and second is a gold medal,” Jake Paul continued.

Over the course of his professional boxing career, Paul has taken home notable wins over the likes of Nate Diaz, as well as former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva – and has knocked out former mixed martial arts titleholders, Tyron Woodley, as well as Ben Askren during their rivalries.

In his sole professional loss, Paul lost his ‘0’ in a split decision defeat against Tommy Fury back in February of last year in Saudi Arabia.
