UFC 304 takes place on Saturday in Manchester, England and the fight card is topped by three British fighters.  In the main event, Birmingham’s Leon Edwards puts his welterweight title on the line against second-ranked Belal Muhammad in a rematch.

The two first fought in March 2021, but the bout ended in a No Contest after an accidental eye poke rendered Muhammad unable to continue.  On Saturday, they’ll finish what they started at Co-op Live.

In the co-main event, Salford’s Tom Aspinall defends his interim heavyweight championship belt against fourth-ranked Curtis Blaydes also in a rematch.  Their first meeting in July 2022 ended in just 15 seconds.  Aspinall suffered a knee injury the ended the fight.  He’ll look to erase that loss on Saturday.

UFC 304 also features a lightweight match between Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett and King Green, formerly known as Bobby Green.  Green is ranked 15th in the division and is a step up in competition for Pimblett, but a win will put “The Baddy” in the rankings.

Former two-time middleweight titleholder Israel Adesanya gave his predictions for the three fights at the top of the UFC 304 fight card and believes one of the Englishmen will suffer a loss.  “The Last Stylebender” predicted that all three fights will end in finishes.

Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad 2 Prediction

“Belal’s got pressure. It just seems like he’s able to get to people and put his will on them,” Adesanya said on his YouTube channel.  “I’ll tell you one thing, this is different.  Leon just seems like he’s a f***ing massacre right now.  He’s on a run.”

“Leon might finish him.  I think Leon finishes this fight,” Adesanya continued.  “This seems like a bad match for Belal.  I’m not hating on Belal or anything… It’s Leon’s fight to win.  It’s Leon’s fight to lose because even when they were fighting the first time, before the eye poke, Leon was touching him up.  Leon by knockout in the third round, second, or third round.”

Tom Aspinall vs. Curtis Blaydes 2 Prediction

“It’s actually really cool how co-main and main event, both of them have fought before and both of them ended in like controversy.  Now both English guys are champions.  Crazy,” said Adesanya.  “I think Tom is on a different level at the moment.”

“If Tom’s going to fight him, he has to fight him at the end of his range.  Tom can blitz, man.  Tom can blitz, and I think he is faster than Blaydes,” Adesanya continued.  “I’m going to go Tom in this fight.  I think Tom is just a weapon right now… I’m going to go Tom by finish in this fight.  But look, if Tom’s not careful, Blaydes can catch him.”

King Green vs. Paddy Pimblett Prediction

“Paddy, this is a big step up for him against a veteran,” Adesanya said.  “For Paddy to get this done, because I’m thinking Bobby is going to finish him, but for Paddy to get this done, get close to him and grapple, get on his back because that’s how you can get him.”

“But I’m going to go Bobby in this fight.  I just think it’s too much sauce,” Adesanya added.  “I just think it’s going to be a finish for Bobby in this one.  Just too much, and eventually he’s going to cave Paddy.  Paddy’s just going to wilt.”

Adesanya will have the opportunity to become a three-time UFC middleweight champion when the takes on titleholder Dricus Du Plessis in the UFC 305 main event on Aug. 17 in Perth, Australia.

UFC 285 Press Conference
Jon Jones and Dana White | Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

UFC CEO Dana White says the stakes couldn’t be higher for Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes ahead of their interim heavyweight title fight at UFC 304.

But wishful thinking and reality may be two different things.

Aspinall—No. 1 at heavyweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings—puts his interim title on the line for the first time against Blaydes in a rematch from their UFC London main event in July 2022, where Blaydes won via 15-second TKO after Aspinall suffered a freak knee injury. Jon Jones, the reigning heavyweight champion, is expected to face Stipe Miocic later this year. When asked if the winner of Saturday’s co-main event will face the Jones vs. Miocic winner, White seemed adamant that it happens.

“Absolutely,” White said at Thursday’s UFC 304 pre-fight press conference.

Jones and Miocic have both teased that their careers are in the home stretch, with Jones even hinting at retirement following a bout with the former heavyweight champion.

Either way, Aspinall believes his matchup with Blaydes is the actual title fight in the division featuring the top-2 guys.

“Curtis, the guy’s good everywhere,” Aspinall said. “I’m not underestimating this guy. This guy’s f*cking good.

“This is the fight between the two best heavyweights in the world — me and [Curtis Blaydes]. This guy is f*cking legit.”

UFC 304 heavyweight winner to face Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic victor

The winner of Saturday’s interim heavyweight title clash between reigning champion Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes will move on to face the winner of Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic.

That comes according to Dana White who offered a one-word response when asked what comes next for the victor in UFC 304’s co-main event.

“Absolutely,” White said at the UFC 304 press conference when asked point-blank if the winner of Aspinall vs. Blaydes would fight either ‘Bones’ or Miocic next.

As great as that sounds, it’s not quite that simple. Ever since he won the undisputed heavyweight title at UFC 285, Jon Jones has routinely teased retirement once his bout with Miocic is in the books. And even if Miocic pulls off the upset, it’s hard to imagine the consensus heavyweight GOAT — who will be 42 by the time he actually fights Jones — would stick around to fight either Aspinall or Blaydes.

That’s probably why Blaydes has been running around touting his title tilt with Aspinall as being for the “real” heavyweight crown.

Tom Aspinall face off with Curtis Blaydes

Tom Aspinall thinks His UFC 304 fight with ‘Razor’ will be a tougher test than what Jon Jones brings to the table

After dispatching Sergei Pavlovich in 69 seconds to claim the interim belt last November, Tom Aspinall lobbied hard for a unification fight with Jon Jones.

Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones

Failing to bait the two-division titleholder into a scrap, the Salford, England native opted to move on to Blaydes, a man he believes presents a much tougher test than a past-his-prime ‘Bones.’

“Because Curtis Blaydes is a well-established heavyweight and I’m not discrediting Jon at all, the guy’s unreal—well I might be discrediting him a bit—but as a heavyweight, Curtis Blaydes has proven multiple times that he’s elite,” Aspinall told Sky Sports.

“And he’s in his prime, Jon Jones isn’t. I think Blaydes is a tougher fight” (h/t Bloody Elbow).
