King Green may as well have laid out a royal edict.
At Thursday’s press conference ahead of UFC 304, the lightweight veteran asked UFC CEO Dana White if the fighters competing at Saturday’s event in Manchester, England, could have their bonuses doubled from the usual $ 50,000 should they win a Performance of the Night or Fight of the Night award. White verbally agreed and MMA Fighting confirmed with officials that bonus winners will now earn $ 100,000 this weekend.
The topic was raised after White was asked if UFC 304 marks the biggest night in U.K. MMA history, given that British champions Leon Edwards and Tom Aspinall are both defending their titles on the card. White announced that the event broke the Co-op Live gate record, though he noted that the venue has only been open since May.
Nevertheless, that information prompted Green—who fights English star Paddy Pimblett on Saturday—to chime in with his request.
“Uncle Dana, let’s spice it up a little bit,” Green said. “Can we get a hundred Gs for it? Can we get a hundred? Let’s spice it up a little bit.”
After some on-stage chatter, White said that Edwards backed up the idea.
“Leon says, ‘Yes,’” White said.
Edwards defends the UFC welterweight title against Belal Muhammad in Saturday’s main event. Hearing that a bonus will now net a six-figure check, Muhammad let out an excited, “Let’s go!” but Edwards quickly threw water on his rival’s hopes.
“Belal don’t worry about that, you’re not knocking anyone out,” Edwards said.

The British have arrived.
Saturday’s UFC 304 event in Manchester, England, is headlined by a pair of title fights, both featuring British champions. Birmingham’s Leon Edwards defends his welterweight title against Belal Muhammad in the main event, while the co-main sees Salford’s Tom Aspinall put the interim heavyweight title on the line against Curtis Blaydes.
Watch the cold open for the ESPN+ pay-per-view event below, which opens by paying homage to U.K. MMA pioneers Michael Bisping, Brad Pickett, and Ross Pearson.

As with every cold open for a major UFC show, the narration is performed by actor Ron Perlman, who proclaims that “the golden age of British MMA has arrived in force.” It’s hard to argue with that assessment given the star power at the top of Saturday’s lineup.
Edwards enters his third defense of the welterweight title having not lost since 2016. He is coming off of a wins over his two biggest rivals, Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman, and now seeks to shut the door on another feud when he rematches Muhammad. Their first encounter ended unceremoniously with an eye poke that left Muhammad unable to continue, but they’ve been granted another five rounds to settle the score.
Aspinall may only hold interim gold, but he is the No. 1 heavyweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings. A matchup with undisputed champion Jon Jones (or Stipe Miocic) could be in the cards for Aspinall with a win at UFC 304, but Blaydes has the potential to spoil the party and turn the heavyweight division on its head.
The UFC 304 Pre-Fight Press Conference took place on Thursday in Manchester, England featuring the fighters competing in the top three bouts on the fight card. Following the press conference, the fighters faced off with their opponents ahead of Saturday’s event.
The fight card is headlined by a welterweight title bout between champion Leon Edwards and second-ranked Belal Muhammad. In the co-main event interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall puts his title on the line against Curtis Blaydes in a rematch. FC 304 also features a lightweight match between Paddy Pimblett and King Green, formerly known as Bobby Green.
There isn’t a designated back up fighter (that we know of) for UFC 304’s Welterweight title fight main event between the champion, Leon Edwards, and challenger, Belal Muhammad. Luckily for UFC, Alexander Volkanovski is in Manchester, England for the festivities this weekend (Sat., July 27, 2024).
Volkanovski, 35, has been out of action since he lost his Featherweight title to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 in February 2024 (watch highlights). “The Great” has opted to take an extended break after back-to-back knockout losses that first started with Lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, in October 2023, followed by the Topuria outcome.
The Makhachev rematch came on roughly two weeks’ notice for Volkanovski and felt like an opportunity he couldn’t pass up on, as he described at the time. Having fought as high as Welterweight before in his 30-fight career (26-4), Volkanovski doesn’t think he’d have much of a problem saving the day again if needed.
“You never know. The Welterweights? The Heavyweights? Mate, believe it or not, I’d do it,” Volkanovski told The Mac Life. “Good paycheck for that one.
“I’m good mates with Leon, but if you’re gonna save the day, you’re gonna save the day,” he continued. “He’s a great fighter so that’s gonna be a tough fight. This is not disrespectful, stylistically, Belal, he’s gonna be offended by that. I’m not trying to offend you but that’s a fight that I believe I could do. Leon Edwards, obviously, I believe in myself all the time but Leon’s good. He’s very, very threatening in so many areas. I’m not saying Belal’s not, but obviously, Belal’s more strategy, good game plan, and calculated. That’s compliments, but I mean that stuff, you need more than that to beat me. Out-strategizing me is going to be very, very hard.”
Volkanovki’s first career loss came in a Welterweight bout against Corey Nelson on the Australian regional scene in May 2013. Similar to Makhachev, Nelson took out the future UFC legend with a head kick and punches.
On a more realistic note, Volkanovski maintains that his return will be a Featherweight title fight.
