Michael Venom Page calls for fight with Kamaru Usman in UFC return why not

Despite seeing his promotional-pefect run coming to a halt at UFC 303 at the end of last month, British striker, Michael Venom Page still wants to share the Octagon with former champion, Kamaru Usman next – especially if the latter is sticking to the welterweight limit.

Page, a former Bellator MMA title challenger, made his sophomore outing in the Octagon at the end of last month on the main card of UFC 303, taking on unbeaten Irish striker, Ian Garry during International Fight Week.

Dropping a close split decision loss to the Portmarnock native, London Shootfighters stalwart, Page suffered his first UFC defeat following a prior unanimous decision shutout win over Kevin Holland in his debut earlier this year.

Michael Venom Page calls for fight with Kamaru Usman

However, initially staking his claim for a showdown with former pound-for-pound number one, Usman should he topple Garry at UFC 303, veteran striker, Page has now claimed despite his defeat to the former, he would still like to take on Auchi native, Usman.

“You know what, for me, I feel like I still hold weight,” Michael Venom Page told Michael Bisping during a recent interview. “People are still excited to see me fight and while that is there, it’s one more win and I’m back in the same conversation again. I would still go for someone like an (Kamaru) Usman – he’s number one ranked.”

“And if my – my thing is, the only reason I keep saying this as well is because he doesn’t seem to be in line for a fight,” Michael Venom Page explained. “So I’m not sure what he’s doing. …If he is going to be staying in the division, then why not? If he’s happy to take the fight, then why not?”

Earlier this week to boot, Usman suggested a shortlist of potential opponents whom he could fight in his return to action – weighing up clashes with both the above-mentioned Garry, as well as incoming UFC 304 headliner and title challenger, Belal Muhammad.

Who wins in a potential future fight: Michael Venom Page or Kamaru Usman?

UFC 301: Barbosa v Kareckaite

Brazilian flyweight Dione Barbosa makes her second octagon appearance Saturday at UFC Vegas 94, less than three months after a decision win over Ernesta Kareckaite, replacing Tracy Cortez against Miranda Maverick in what could be a life-changing opportunity.

Barbosa lived in California and trained with Rafael Cordeiro at Kings MMA before moving to Las Vegas in June to live closer to UFC headquarters and ultimately save money.

“Living in California is expensive,” Barbosa told MMA Fighting. “I worked a lot there. Besides the structure that Vegas offers you, I’ll have to work less and not teach that many classes. I like to teach, but a fighter only makes money when she’s fighting, and I taught 20 classes a week. That’s a lot. I couldn’t rest, it was too much. I couldn’t do that to my career. The window is too short, five years is a long time, so if I want to do it the right way, maybe coming to Vegas allows me to invest more time in my career.”

Barbosa said she teaches less and rests more since moving to Las Vegas, even though being in camp doesn’t allow her to make extra money as a martial arts instructor.

“There’s no money coming in after a fight, so I had to teach,” Barbosa said. “I stopped teaching two months before the Rio fight to focus on training so that money I made was enough to pay the rent and my car, and the money is gone fast after the fight. You put pen to paper, if you continue on this first [UFC] contract and all my expenses in California, I just couldn’t stop working.

“But there’s a difference in living the life of an athlete, and I had to make a decision. I loved living in California and training at Kings MMA, but I had to think about the future of my career. The numbers didn’t add up. For how long my body is going to take this? I’m not 18 anymore. I had to weigh all that. I had to leave. I was heartbroken, but my main goal is to be a full-time fighter. I knew living in the United States wasn’t easy, but it’s an opportunity.”

Barbosa took the UFC Vegas 94 fight just days after moving to the city and will only decide her next home after this weekend, so her short camp was made at the UFC Performance Institute with coach Matheus Naccache and her usual grappling and wrestling trainers.

“She’s an experienced athlete and has a big name, but I’m here to fight,” Barbosa said of Maverick, who holds a UFC record of 6-3 with wins over the likes of Andrea Lee, Gillian Robertson, and Priscila Cachoeira. “She’s fought a lot of tough athletes but never a specialist like myself. I see myself winning this fight, even though many people don’t believe in me. I loved this matchup and I don’t care where this fight goes, I think I’m better than her.”

Jake Paul has carved out a lucrative boxing career by mainly fighting retired UFC fighters.  Half of his career wins have been over retired mixed martial artists.

In his third professional boxing match, Paul knocked out Ben Askren in under two minutes.  He holds two wins over former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley including by knockout in their rematch.  He defeated former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva via unanimous decision and defeated The Ultimate Fighter 5 winner Nate Diaz in a one-sided fight.

On Saturday, Paul takes on former UFC fighter and current Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship standout Mike Perry.  During the event’s pre-fight press conference, Paul took aim at ‘all MMA fighters.’

“MMA fighters are all pu**ies,” Paul said. “Every single MMA fighter is a f***ing pu**y and they can’t box for s***.”  Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping was ‘annoyed’ by Paul’s comments and has considered coming out of retirement to take on “The Problem Child.”

“Jesus Christ, you know what I mean, ‘All MMA fighters are pu**ies and we can’t box for s***’, I mean that’s really annoyed me,” Bisping responded on his YouTube channel.  “That almost makes me want to come out of retirement and smash this guy’s f***ing face in.”

After hearing Paul’s comments, Bisping went all in with his support for Mike Perry and hopes “Platinum” knocks the influencer-turned-boxer out at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

“I hope Mike Perry does it. There are so many great boxers from the world of Mixed Martial Arts that would whoop this guy’s ass,” Bisping said.  ““I’ve never wanted someone to win a fight as much in my life, for the love of God, Jake Paul, please, I hope you get knocked out on Saturday night.

“Mike Perry is the smaller guy, but he’s more ferocious, he’s more aggressive and he’s got a good chance of winning this… Jake Paul is fake, Jake Paul’s an imposter, Jake Paul is a pretty boy who wants to seem like a badass,” Bisping continued.

Midnight Mania! TikToker Escapes Perry Beatdown

by Site Admin ~ July 20th, 2024

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Mike Perry is not a person you want to mess with, but some TikTok guy still tried to provoke a fight with “Platinum” on Friday night.

The former UFC fighter is gearing up for a showdown with Jake Paul inside the boxing ring this weekend and was in Tampa, Fla., on Friday for the ceremonial weigh ins. While backstage, Perry was harassed by some annoying influencer who kept saying that Paul was going to get the win.

Perry, who is usually ready to brawl at the drop of a dime, shoved the guy away from him and surprisingly stopped there. The TikToker kept running his mouth as security rushed in and started to break it up. During the melee the guy seemed to spray a can of W in Perry’s direction. He’s lucky to be alive.
