Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou is back in training camp ahead of a long-anticipated debut under the banner of the PFL (Professional Fighters League) – according to promotional official, Ray Sefo.
Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, penned a multi-fight deal with the PFL at the beginning of last year following his unceremonious departure from the Octagon after completing his contractual obligations.
And taking two professional boxing matches in the time since, Batie knockout artist, Ngannou first dropped a controversial split decision loss to the then-unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.
Earlier this annum, Ngannou made his sophomore outing in the squared circle against former two-time champion, Anthony Joshua, suffering a devastating second round KO loss to the British star.
Francis Ngannou back in training for PFL debut fight
And expected to take on Renan Ferreira in a PFL debut, Ngannou has reportedly returned to training according to UFC alum, Sefo, following the sad passing of his infant son, Kobe.
“Francis (Ngannou) has been back in camp for the last three weeks in Vegas because he trains with us at Xtreme Couture,” Ray Sefo told Kevin Iole during a recent interview. “That’s in the works, and I think we’re just in the midst of trying to finalize exactly where it’s going to be, when the date is, and what kind of timeframe it’s going to take for both athletes to be ready, and we’ll go from there.”
In his most recent professional mixed martial arts walk, Ngannou most recently unified the heavyweight titles in the UFC with a unanimous decision win over Ciryl Gane, handing the Frenchman his first professional loss back in 2022.

Here is a list of live events from the UFC that are coming soon.
On July 13, the promotion held a UFC Fight Night event at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. The main event featured Rose Namajunas taking on Tracy Cortez on short notice in a women’s flyweight bout. “Thug Rose” controlled the fight in the judges’ eyes to win a unanimous decision.
The UFC’s schedule will continue with notable matchups from its stacked roster. The company has several events confirmed to occur this year, including three pay-per-views announced thus far.
This Saturday, the UFC returns for another fight night event at the Apex Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event will be a women’s strawweight bout between top contenders Amanda Lemos and Virna Jandiroba. Both fighters come into the headliner having won their respective last fights and will be motivated to get a statement win to challenge UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Zhang Weili. Currently, DraftKings has Jandiroba as a slight favorite to emerge victorious.
Elsewhere on the card, Doo Ho Choi makes his return to action to take on Bill Algeo in a featherweight contest. Choi’s last fight was a majority draw against Kyle Nelson at UFC Fight Night: Derrick Lewis vs. Serghei Spivac in February 2023. He’ll try to snap a three-fight losing streak, while Algeo hopes to bounce back from his last defeat. The matchup can be among the best fights on the card based on their fighting styles.
The octagon is back at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas for this weekend’s UFC on ESPN 60 event. On Friday, the fighters competing on the fight card officially weighed in.

Kurt Holobaugh won 19 of 22 fights outside the octagon, but hasn’t been able to replicate that success in the UFC.
His opponent at UFC Vegas 94, Kaynan Kruschewsky, won’t feel sorry for the veteran when they face off Saturday night.
A former Jungle Fight lightweight champion who signed with the promotion after submitting Dylan Mantello on Contender Series, Kruschewsky came up short in his UFC debut this past November when he took on Elves Brener on four days’ notice. The experience changed him, and he vows to give Holobaugh his sixth loss in seven UFC bouts.
“If he makes a mistake, I’ll squeeze his neck,” Kruschewsky told MMA Fighting. “It sucks to be talking about someone else’s losses, but we’re fighting for a dream here. Those who do more cry less. I’ll make his family cry because he will lose this fight, God willing. I’ve worked so hard for this. My family needs this win, I need this win. There’s nothing else for me. It’s my dream, it’s the win, and it doesn’t matter how.”
Kruschewsky has ended 60 percent of his MMA wins by submission and plans to do the same at UFC Vegas 94, even if Holobaugh has only been submitted once in 29 pro fights. The Brazilian lightweight, however, doesn’t rule out finishing the fight on the feet.
“Knockout, submission, or a decision, I’m going to war like always,” Kruschewsky said. “I’ll dance [however] they play that night. I know he’s a warrior and probably will try to knock me out, corner me against the cage and explode. He doesn’t have a good takedown defense but has a good guard, so it’s smart not to fight there, to be on half guard. But like two plus two equals four, I’ll catch him if I take him down. He will go down and I’ll squeeze his neck, make no mistake about it.”
UFC Vegas 94 marks the debut of Kruschewsky representing Brazil’s up-and-coming Fighting Nerds team and the 155-pounder called his preparation “the perfect camp,” especially after a rough night in the office — with no camp whatsoever — at UFC São Paulo.
“I can say this will be, in fact, my UFC debut, because I see that [Brener] fight as a learning experience,” Kruschewsky said. “I didn’t really need to take that fight because I was already under contract with the UFC, but I don’t regret it. I’m an employee of the UFC and when they call me, I’ll be ready. But it’s going to be a different Kaynan now, more intelligent and calm. We’ll brawl, but when I want to. I’ll drop him on his ass.
“I prepared my entire life to be in the UFC but I wasn’t ready to go through that atmosphere on such short notice. Elves Brener was already in camp and that fight fell on my lap on four days’ notice, and I let emotions carry me. When Dana White signed me, he said I was ready for any situation, that he would count on me, and that stayed in my head. When my manager called me, I thought I could live up to those expectations. When Bruce Buffer started the show and said my name and touched my hand, I thought, ‘That’s it, I’ll kill that man.’ Said who? The adrenaline took control of me and I choked.
“People think I was doing OK and being aggressive, but the emotions dominated me and I couldn’t deliver. I don’t regret it, but I do regret the outcome.”
Saturday’s UFC Vegas 97 fight card was supposed to feature a middleweight bout between Brad Tavares and Jun-yong Park as the co-main event. Both fighters successfully made weight with Tavares weighing 185.5 pounds and Park tipping the scales at 186. Everything seemed in order until the fight was suddenly canceled.
Following the weigh-in, an announcement was made that the fight had been canceled due to a ‘medical issue.’
“The co-main event between Brad Tavares and Jun-yong Park has been canceled,” UFC officials announced following the weigh-in. “There’s a medical issue on the Jun-yong Park side. That fight has been canceled tomorrow.”
UFC Vegas 97 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. A women’s strawweight bout between 3rd ranked Amanda Lemos (14-3-1) and 5th ranked Virna Jandiroba headlines the event.
Tavares (20-9) was looking to rebound from a loss in his last outing to Gregory Rodrigues in February. He had lost three of his last four fights and was in desperate need of a win. Park (17-6) has a four-fight winning streak snapped in last bout losing a split decision to Andre Muniz last December.
It was unclear whether the fight promotion would rebook the fight for a later date, or scrap the matchup altogether moving forward.
