Daniel Cormier may never lead Jon Jones’ cheering section, but even he is backing his longtime rival when it comes to the pair of misdemeanor charges Jones faces regarding an alleged altercation with drug-testing agents in March.

The whole ordeal started after representatives from Drug Free Sport — the UFC’s anti-doping partner — visited Jones’ house on March 30. One of the agents subsequently filed a police report claiming that the UFC heavyweight champion was aggressive toward her and her co-worker, and that she felt “terrified” during the encounter and “was afraid Jones might hit her.”

Jones vehemently denied the account but was eventually handed an assault charge, which is a petty misdemeanor, as well as a second misdemeanor charge for interference with communications after he allegedly grabbed the drug tester’s phone during the encounter. On Wednesday, Jones plead not guilty to both charges.

“If I’m being completely honest though, the whole time, I kind of thought the deal was B.S.” Cormier said about Jones on his YouTube channel. “I feel like he was approached very early, or if I recall correctly it was either early in the morning or late in the evening, where he could have been home having some drinks.

“I know we all rush to judge Jones because of his past issues, but the reality is if a man is at his house and he’s having some drinks in the confines of his own home, so what? It’s his right to do that. If the drug testers come and he might be a little bit tipsy or messed up, maybe the interactions aren’t as fun or as easy as they may have been in other occasions. I kind of always thought it was B.S. I don’t think much is going to come of it.”

Based on the police report, the drug tester identified as Crystal Martinez told authorities that she showed up at Jones’ home around 4 p.m. local time and “smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him.”

Jones later said in his own statement that the drug testers visited him during a birthday party and after he was taking a nap. He denied threatening the drug-testing agents and noted that he planned to “vigorously defend” himself against the allegations.

Even if he was convicted on both charges, Jones would face less than one total year in jail and a maximum fine up to $ 1,500, but it’s highly unlikely either actually happens.

While Jones did plead not guilty in court, his attorneys will almost certainly cut some sort of plea deal with prosecutors that may end in some sort of punishment, but there’s almost no chance Jones ever sees the inside of a jail cell over misdemeanor charges.

That being said, Cormier understands why so much attention gets paid to Jones, especially with his past of being arrested numerous times throughout his UFC career.

“Because he is who he is, it’s always a story,” Cormier said. “Regardless of what happens to this guy. Honestly, that’s kind of living in the spotlight, but I think because of everything he’s done in the past, the light shines a little brighter on him. I don’t really think that this is that big of a deal. It was always going to be a misdemeanor, but some of the things that has happened in the past were much more serious.

“If you are a Jones hater and you are hoping that something comes of this, I don’t think it will. I think this man was bombarded a little bit and I think a misdemeanor is only the court’s way of taking some action, because something has to be done whenever you do something wrong.”

Even if their shared past is rocky at best, Cormier doesn’t expect much to come from the court case. He’s actually backing Jones, viewing the situation as much ado about nothing.

“I’m not the judge, I’m not the jury, so it doesn’t really matter,” Cormier said. “I’m just a guy that doesn’t like a guy that is actually standing up for that guy because I know it’s bullshit. It is what it is.”

Conor McGregor previews fantasy fight with Ilia Topuria I'd slap him around I'd beat King Kong

Former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has previewed a potential fantasy fight with current featherweight titleholder, Ilia Topuria – particularly if both end up in the BKFC in the future, claiming he would “slap” around the unbeaten striking sensation.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the UFC banner, attended a BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) in Marbella, Spain – helping to promote an October even in the region alongside promotional boss, David Feldman.

Striking a partnership with the North American-based glove-less organization earlier this annum, McGregor was slated to make his own return to competition at UFC 303 last month, seeing a scheduled fight with former lightweight title challenger, Ilia Topuria fall to the wayside.

Fracturing a toe on his left foot, McGregor withdrew from a set welterweight return against Topuria as a result, failing to snap a now-three-year plus hiatus away from the Octagon since he fractured his left tibia and fibula against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in the pair’s trilogy rubber match.

Conor McGregor calls for creation of new RMF title amid links to December return to UFC

And alongside his deal with the BKFC, McGregor has played up a potential move to the potential in the near future, confirming he retains just a pair of fights on his current UFC contract.

Conor McGregor vows to “slap” around Ilia Topuria in potential fight

Weighing up potential matchups at today’s pre-event press conference in Malaga, ex-champion, McGregor claimed he would “slap” around Topuria if they shared the ring in the future in the BKFC.

“You know, Ilia (Topuria) – a Spanish-Georgian lad, he’s not bad,” Conor McGregor told assembled media. “He’s a boxing-heavy style. He would certainly lend well in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship – I’d slap him around, he’s too small. I’m a big lad compared to Ilia, but he’s not bad. He’s a current UFC world champion. …So, if you’re asking – I’d beat King Kong if you’re asking me, you know what I’m saying?”

As for what’s likely next for Topuria, the undisputed featherweight champion is expected to headline UFC 307 in October, taking on would-be common-foe, Max Holloway in his first defense of the divisional title.

Having seen a portion of the fanbase turn against him, UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett expects to reverse that at the expense of Bobby Green.

Pimblett broke onto the scene in a big way following his UFC signing in 2021, winning his debut via knockout and subsequently recording two memorable submissions on home soil at London-held UFC Fight Nights in 2022.

But just as his following grew and rise to stardom accelerated, the tide appeared to turn when “The Baddy” made his pay-per-view debut opposite Jared Gordon in Las Vegas later that year.

While all three scorecards went in his favor, many cried robbery and began to dismiss the Liverpudlian as a legitimate threat to those high up the 155-pound ladder. And having suffered a foot injury, Pimblett had to wait a full year to answer his critics.

Last December at UFC 296, he remained unbeaten by getting the better of former interim champion Tony Ferguson. But having once again gone to a decision, and given the length of “El Cucuy’s” losing streak entering the bout, the result appeared to do little to stifle “The Baddy’s” detractors.

He’ll have another chance to do so at the upcoming UFC 304 pay-per-view event in Manchester, England, where Pimblett is set to share the Octagon with ranked opposition for the very first time.

And with a violent victory over Bobby “King” Green on July 27, the former Cage Warriors champ expects the “fickle” MMA fans to start backing him once again…

Pimblett: It’s ‘Popular’ To Hate On Me Right Now

During a recent interview with Ben Fowlkes for Yahoo! Sports, Pimblett looked ahead to his opening assignment of 2024 and first outing on home soil in two years.

When asked about some of the backlash he gets from the fans for topics ranging from in-cage performances to weight gain in-between his Octagon appearances, Pimblett suggested that it’s simply “popular” to speak negatively about him.

But with a dominant and emphatic display at the expense of Green at UFC 304, “The Baddy” expects his former supporters to return.

“Haters are gonna hate. I don’t give a f*ck what people on the Internet say, lad. I see people comment stuff all the time,” Pimblett said. “It’s a popular thing at the minute to hate on me. Ever since that Jared Gordon fight, it’s popular. Before that fight, I was the best thing since sliced bread. I was great, everyone loved me. Then I have a close decision that three judges decided I won — not me, I didn’t pick the winner — and everyone turns on you.

“That’s the thing in this sport, lad. MMA fans are so fickle. It’s one of them. I come out in this fight and knock Bobby Green, everyone will be back on side,” Pimblett added.

Pimblett will look to make good on his promise to finish Green inside the distance. More so than regaining fan support, that’s in order for “The Baddy” to debut in the lightweight rankings and begin his planned four-fight path to the title.

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Jake Paul has never seen eye-to-eye with Dana White, but if the UFC CEO is willing to pay his fighters more then Paul is willing to bury the hatchet.

The social media star returns to the boxing ring this weekend against former UFC fighter and current bareknuckle boxer, Mike Perry. It’s another opportunity for Paul to hone his boxing skills against a former MMA fighter and get paid handsomely while doing so. His business model continues to work.

Paul was doing the typical media stuff this week and was asked about mending his relationship with White. The two have publicly clashed — mostly over fighter pay, ticket sales, and Mike Tyson — and seem far off from ever squashing their beef. Still, Paul is willing to have a sit down with White and have a conversation like “grown men,” but “Problem Child” needs one thing to happen first.

Check it out below:

“Now it’s time for him to pay his UFC fighters more,” said Paul. “If he can agree to do that, then I’m more than down to sit down and have a conversation with him and work on our relationship like grown men.”
