UFC Fight Night: Wilson v Silva

Jean Silva is hungry to punch someone in the face after a frustrating week at UFC 301, and he plans on making Charles Jourdain pay for it Saturday at UFC 303.

Silva made weight for his UFC 301 bout with William Gomis in early May, but saw his opponent in visible pain on the scale. Gomis ultimately came in way under the featherweight limit after throwing up backstage and was deemed unable to compete by doctors. Silva flew back home with no fight, and now he celebrates finally getting one at UFC 303.

“Charles Jourdain is the man I love the most until I get to punch him, because without him, there’s nothing,” Silva told MMA Fighting. “But, to be honest with you, Charles Jourdain is easier to beat [than Gomis] because it’s a better matchup for ‘Lord.’ William Gomis ran too much, brother. He’s more technical and versatile and fights well with his back against the cage. Charles Jourdain is more scared and just comes in to fight. And let’s be honest here, it would be stupid to brawl with me. It would be like laying your head on the ground and asking me to hammer it.”

Jourdain has more experience in MMA, having competed 13 times under the UFC banner alone, while Silva brings a pro record of 12-2 to his second octagon appearance. “Lord Assassin” impressed in his first trip to the UFC, dismantling Westin Wilson with a first-round knockout, and already proclaims himself “the best in the world until I retire.”

“Deep in your heart, you know I’m going to knock him out,” Silva said. “That’s obvious. It’s no secret to anyone. Chuck Liddell style, brother. I’ll stop their takedowns and punch their heads. And if they want to stand and trade with me, that’s even worse for them. Charles Jourdain has good jiu-jitsu, good scrambles, good guillotines, but that’s my move. I teach guillotines. If he wants to take me down, I’ll catch him with a guillotine to show people it’s worth paying for my guillotine classes. That’s it.”

Silva wants to make it clear he’s not being cocky. The right word, in his mind, is confident.

And the fact that Jourdain has beaten some fellow Brazilians before, from Kron Gracie to Ricardo Ramos, doesn’t raise any concerns.

“Charles Jourdain does good things, he has 13 fights [in the UFC] and has a good record against Brazilians. But who?” Silva said. “We’re talking about Brazilians that entered the UFC to be another one. Sorry, I’m not being cocky, but it’s clear to people who enters the UFC to become champion and who enters the UFC to change their lives. If you go to the UFC or any other big company thinking about changing your life, nothing bigger will happen.

“I’ve always wanted to be in the big promotions to beat the guys that people call the world’s best and be known for it. I want to be famous for beating people. The consequence of that is me winning the belt, being recognized, seeing my name up there, people knowing who I am, but that’s not what I’m here for.”

Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka full fight video

UFC 300: Pereira v Hill

Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka full fight video showcases one of the most memorable performances of Alex Pereira’s UFC career.

At UFC 295, Pereira earned Performance of the Night when he knocked out Prochakza at the 4:08 mark of the second round to capture the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The title was vacated because Jamahal Hill ruptured his Achilles tendon playing basketball. In doing so, Pereira became just the ninth fighter in UFC history to capture titles in two divisions, having previously won the middleweight belt with a fifth-round TKO victory over Israel Adesanya.

Pereira has since defended his light heavyweight title against Hill in the main event of UFC 300. Pereira delivered a first-round knockout of Hill to retain his belt and win his third straight UFC contest.

Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka clash again in the main event of UFC 305 on Saturday night.

Massive ‘Poatan’ Regains 25 Pounds In 24 Hours

by Site Admin ~ June 29th, 2024

Alex Pereira has already bulked back up for his light heavyweight title rematch against Jiri Prochazka later tonight (Sat., June 29, 2024) at UFC 303 LIVE on ESPN+ PPV from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pereira, who will be defending his 205-pound crown for the second-straight time, is the betting favorite to take care of business and hand Prochazka another loss inside of the Octagon. Remember, the two first met back at UFC 295 in Nov. 2023. Prochazka was winning that fight until “Poatan” delivered a memorable second-round knockout.

While tonight’s title rematch came together on just two weeks notice both fighters seem more than prepared. After all, the two were expected to meet sometime this summer anyways. It just happened to go down sooner than planned, but on a bigger card during UFC’s International Fight Week.

Luckily, Pereira and Prochazka are true professionals and had no issues making weight for Friday’s official weigh ins (replay HERE). Since early Friday, Pereira has packed back on considerable weight. He posted the following to Instagram on Friday showing off a 25-pound gain and explaining how he had his best light heavyweight cut to date.

It’s unknown at this time if this massive weight gain will play any factor in Pereira’s title defense against Prochazka, but it can’t hurt. Prochazka is a big, strong light heavyweight who attacks with a variety of techniques. Pereira may be the favorite entering UFC 303, but he still has much to prove when it comes to his overall MMA arsenal.

UFC 297: Pennington v Bueno Silva
Mayra Bueno Silva | Photo by Vaughn Ridley/Getty Images

Mayra Bueno Silva wants to reinsert herself in the bantamweight title picture with a win over Macy Chiasson at UFC 303 this Saturday in Las Vegas, and knows she could be on a collision course with teammate Kayla Harrison.

Silva occasionally trains with the two-time Olympic champion Harrison at American Top Team in Florida, and feels that beating Chiasson at UFC 303 is the perfect opportunity rebound from a title loss to Raquel Pennington in January and show “that I own this division.” Harrison is also campaigning for a shot at gold after dominating and finishing Holly Holm in her UFC debut this past April, and “Sheetara” believes they could end up facing each other inside the octagon down the line.

“If we have to unfortunately fight each other, Kayla and I, it’s part of the game,” Silva told MMA Fighting. “We’re both professionals and there would be no problem. We fight for free in the gym, imagine with them paying. [Laughs.] We haven’t talked about it because it’s hard. We laugh together, we have fun, we help each other if we need, but we know in our hearts that if I win Saturday, there’s a real possibility this happens.”

“Most of our coaches are the same, so we would have a huge problem in our hands,” she added. “But honestly, I’m not thinking about it at the moment. Kayla isn’t thinking about it either. I have to once again prove that I deserve it. Kayla has done it, she went in there and proved she deserves it. In order for that to happen, I have a gigantic 5’11” problem in front of me named Macy Chiasson that I have to face Saturday.”

Silva earned a shot at UFC gold by beating Holm in July 2023, a victory that was later overturned to a no-contest due to a positive drug test caused by TDAH medication. The Brazilian bantamweight admits her most recent performance versus Pennington was “very bad” and vows to impress Saturday. In doing so, she hopes to give UFC CEO Dana White doubts as to who should be next in line for the belt.

“It’s going to be a very hard fight because [Chiasson] is very lengthy and tall and she moves well, but I see myself as the superior fighter in every aspect of the fight,” Silva said. “I’m not being cocky or any of that, I’m just confident that I’ve worked really hard and know I’m better than her everywhere. But I think it’s a fight that gives me difficulties because it’s almost she has a nine-inch reach advantage. I’ve never faced this before, so it’s going to be a new challenge for me.”

“The dream scenario for me is a submission win, but I’m so ready for this fight,” she continued. “My team did everything we had to do to come out with my hands raised. Regardless of the outcome, if it’s a decision, a submission, or a knockout, we’re ready to fight in all areas to come out with my hands raised. But, to me, a submission would be perfect.”
