Ryan Garcia was arrested for felony vandalism on Saturday by Beverly Hills police after a hotel decided to press charges for damage the boxer allegedly inflicted while staying there.

On Sunday, the Beverly Hills Police Department issued a statement regarding the arrest and detaining Garcia after the news was initially reported by TMZ.

“On June 8, 2024, at approximately 5:15 P.M., the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to 9850 Wilshire Blvd. (Waldorf Astoria) for an ‘intoxicated person’ call for service,” Beverly Hills police said in a statement sent to MMA Fighting. “During the investigation, the intoxicated person was identified as Ryan Garcia. Upon obtaining statements from the hotel management, it was determined that Mr. Garcia was a registered guest of the hotel and had caused damage to a guest room and the hallway of the hotel. Hotel management requested the arrest of Mr. Garcia for property damage.

“Ryan Garcia, a 25-year-old from Porter Ranch, California, was arrested for PC 594(b)(1) – Felony vandalism and transported by the Beverly Hills Fire Department to a local hospital for medical care.”

After the arrest was reported, Garcia’s attorney Darin Chavez issued a statement to ESPN regarding the incident and the struggles the boxer has apparently been facing lately due to “devastating news regarding his mother’s health.”

“Ryan has been open about his struggles with mental health over the years, and at this time he is dealing with an immense emotional burden,” Chavez said. “The support and understanding from fans and the public are crucial as he navigates these personal challenges.

“We are working diligently to provide Ryan with the resources he needs. Our team is committed to ensuring that he receives the appropriate help and care to address both his immediate and long-term well-being. We ask for continued support and compassion as Ryan focuses on his family and his health at this time.”

In California, property damage exceeding $ 400 in value is considered a felony, which explains the nature of the charge that Garcia potentially faces.

If convicted, Garcia could face up to three years in state prison and a fine up to $ 50,000.

It’s been a tumultuous couple of months for Garcia after he scored the biggest win of his career with a decision victory over Devin Haney following a dazzling performance where he scored three knockdowns over the previously undefeated fighter in April. The result then came into question after Garcia tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine, which he claimed was a result of a tainted supplement he ingested in the lead up to the fight.

Garcia faces possible suspension and fines from the New York Athletic Commission over the failed drug test and the result in the fight against Haney could potentially be overturned. The commission hasn’t issued a ruling yet.

Matches To Make After UFC Louisville

by Site Admin ~ June 9th, 2024

UFC Fight Night: Ferreira v Stoltzfus

UFC Louisville went down last night (Sat., June 8, 2024), featuring a Middleweight bout that saw Nassourdine Imavov score a fourth round technical knockout win over Jared Cannonier (see it again here). In the co-main event, Dominick Reyes returned to the win column, defeating Dustin Jacoby via strikes in the first round (his first win in five years), while Raul Rosas Jr. submitted Ricky Turcios in the second round (watch highlights).

UFC Fight Night: Cannonier v Imavov Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Nassourdine Imavov
Who He Should Face Next: Run it back with Cannonier

Some may disagree, but a rematch is in order following that horrible stoppage. While it may be a tall task to convince Imavov to sign on the dotted line since he is the one who had his hand raised in victory, it makes sense. Cannonier is ranked fourth, Imavov is seventh, so if he wants to make his case for the Top 5, get a more convincing win over “Killa Gorilla.”

UFC Fight Night: Reyes v Jacoby Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Dominick Reyes
Who He Should Face Next: Alonzo Menifield

For the first time in five years, Reyes had his hand raised in victory after destroying Jacoby. Still ranked No. 15 in the division, Reyes could be staring at a showdown against Menifield, who was last seen coming up short against Carlos Ulberg a few weeks ago. Prior to the defeat, Menifield was 4-0-1 and is currently ranked No. 13 in the division.

UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. v Turcios Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Raul Rosas Jr.
Who He Should Face Next: Brad Katona

Rosas Jr. is now 3-1 inside the Octagon, proving that he isn’t just hype. Still, slow and steady is the name of the game for the young contender, and a showdown against Katona seems fitting. Katona was also victorious last night, defeating Jesse Butler via unanimous decision. Since returning to the Octagon, the former two-time The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner is 2-1 after going 2-2 in his first run. Katona has the experience to test Rosas Jr., and it would be a great measuring stick.

UFC Fight Night: Ferreira v Stoltzfus Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Brunno Ferreira
Who He Should Face Next: Edmen Shahbazyan

Ferreira improved to 3-1 under the UFC banner following his impressive first round knockout win over Dustin Stoltzfus, his second straight inside the Octagon. Up next for the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace, a showdown against Shahbazyan seems fitting. “The Golden Boy” recently got back into the win column himself with his own impressive knockout win over A.J. Dobson two months ago.

UFC Fight Night: Marquez v Reese Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Zachary Reese
Who He Should Face Next: Abus Magomedov

It didn’t take long for Reese to make quick work of Julian Marquez, knocking him out in the first round — in 20 seconds to be exact — to earn his first win inside the Octagon after losing his UFC debut. As for Magomedov, he recently snapped his two-fight skid, defeating Warlley Alves just last month, dropping his UFC record to an even 2-2.

UFC Fight Night: Baeza v Soriano Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Winner: Punahele Soriano
Who He Should Face Next: Jake Matthews

Soriano made a successful transition to Welterweight, defeating Miguel Baeza via unanimous decision after dropping two in a row at Middleweight. In five years with the promotion, Soriano is an even 4-4, so he needs to start racking up wins in more consecutive fashion if he wants to get some shine. Up next for him should be a fight against the likes of Matthews who — like Soriano — hasn’t been so consistent with earning wins, going just 3-3 in his last six fights. He is coming off a win over Philip Rowe at UFC 302, so their turnaround times could sync up.

Chase & Status

When Tyson Fury walked out to face Francis Ngannou at “Battle of the Baddest” this past October, no one was happier about it than Saul Milton.

Milton is one half of the English electronic music duo Chase & Status and also a massive MMA fan. So when Fury walked out to the Chase & Status single Baddadan for his fight with Ngannou, Milton got to see two of his passions collide on one of the biggest stages possible. Speaking on The MMA Hour, Milton explained how that all came about and what it was like to watch.

“On that track is another great artist called Bou, a young kid from Manchester,” Milton said.

“Bou called us and said, ‘Yo, listen, bruv, Tyson Fury might walk out to Baddadan!’ I was like, what the hell are you talking about? He goes, ‘Listen, we’ve got someone there right now. We’ve got the tune, we’re going to play it for the man, see what happens.’ I said, ‘Bruv, mad! Crazy, crazy.’ Then literally minutes later, I see a clip — and it wasn’t the walkout. It was the day before when they were doing the open workouts and it was playing on a loop. I was like, what the hell is going on here?

“One of his mates is down there and he gave someone on Tyson’s team the song. Then we got a message from another well-known DJ in the U.K. called Majestic. He was like, ‘Bruv, what do you say about Baddadan for Tyson?’ I go, ‘Oh, is it you?’ ‘Yeah, I’m Tyson’s DJ. I play all of his music.’ I go, ‘Amazing! Thank you so much, man!’ ‘No, I loved it. It’s Battle of the Baddest, it makes so much sense!’

“So I said, ‘What do you say to playing it for his walkout?’ He said, ‘Bruv, walkout was sorted ages ago. He’s got a three-tiered [walkout song].’ ‘Ah, say no more. All good.’ Then the same day he said, ‘Change of plans. Can you get me a dub of it?’ I was like, ‘No problem.’ … It was amazing.”

Chase & Status are a highly successful group, with several albums topping the U.K. Dance charts, including their multi-platinum record No More Idols. They’ve also been nominated for a number of music awards, most recently taking home Producer of the Year in the 2024 Brit Awards.

On top of his music acumen, Milton’s MMA fandom runs deep, stating that he has not missed an English UFC card in years. Moreover, Chase & Status provide walkout songs for a number of fighters, including Brendan Loughnane and Veronica Hardy, among others. Given that, his allegiance was a little bit torn heading into the Fury-Ngannou matchup, but in the end, things couldn’t have worked out better for Milton, as Fury won the fight but Ngannou exceeded expectations and even dropped Fury in the third round.

“Both parts of me were pleased,” Milton said. “Because obviously the conversation away from the fight is how well Francis did, shocked the world regardless when he floored Tyson. I think honestly, I think when Tyson got that first clump from Francis he thought, ‘F*cking hell, I’ve not been hit like this in a while. Or maybe ever.’ The same way when Francis got clumped by Anthony straight away, he was like, ‘Goodbye.’ He was gone. Never felt that before. I think maybe Tyson wasn’t too privy to how hard Francis actually hits.

“So he performed above and beyond expectations. So that was great for an MMA fan. And then the guy who walked out to our track, who we’re also big fans of for many years as well, won. So both my conflicting sides got my appeasement.”
