Footage has surfaced which shows Israel Adesanya’s instant reaction to his defeat against Sean Strickland.

‘The Last Stylebender’ has been a mainstay in the UFC middleweight division since signing for the promotion in 2018. He then proceeded to take an astronomical rise to the top and is today considered one of the bigger names in mixed martial arts.

Love him or hate him, Israel Adesanya is one of the greatest combat sports athletes to ever step foot into the octagon. While some dislike him for staying true to himself, it’s hard for anybody to deny just how humble he can be in both victory and defeat.

His humble nature was on full display in the moments following his defeat at UFC 293. Instead of making excuses, Adesanya took time to praise Strickland for getting the job done while speaking to Dana White.

“Thank you for the opportunity. Thanks for making the fight happen,” Adesanya said in the aftermath of UFC 293. “And again, it doesn’t matter. Even though it’s his night, it’s still history.”

“It’s a good story for him, it’s a good story for America. It is what it is, it’s the game.”

Israel Adesanya made a promise to his father that he will avenge the defeat to Sean Strickland.

While both men are seemingly on different paths of their career, a future bout between the two is still a possibility–something Strickland has shown an interest in.

Though nothing has been made official, rumors are pointing toward Adesanya fighting for the middleweight title next.

Dricus Du Plessis is the head of the 185 lbs division and a fierce rival of Israel Adesanya. The pair have been in an ongoing feud for years and are speculated to collide in the headlining bout of UFC 305. The pay-per-view is set to take place on August 17, in Australia.

UFC Fight Night Zabit v Kattar: Open Workouts

Kyle Nelson aims to make a big statement in the UFC featherweight division.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that Nelson will face perennial contender Calvin Kattar at the UFC’s event on Sept. 7. The booking was first reported by MMA Junkie.

The location and venue for the fight card has yet to be announced.

Kattar has had a tough run as of late, dropping three straight, and four of his past five outings. In his most recent appearance, Kattar lost a dominant unanimous decision to former bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling at April’s UFC 300 event. The bout served as Kattar’s first since suffering a brutal knee injury in a loss to Arnold Allen in October 2022.

Nelson is unbeaten in four straight as he enters the biggest bout of his career to date. “The Monster” delivered a big-time performance when he stopped Bill Algeo in the first-round of his most recent bout at UFC Atlantic City in March.

‘I’m Proud Of Him, But I’m Gonna Get Him’

UFC 293: Adesanya v Strickland

Israel Adesanya suffered a tough loss to Sean Strickland in September of 2023. New footage shows how ‘Stylebender’ dealt with the adversity behind closed doors.

We’ve got new footage of Israel Adesanya following his championship loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293, and “The Last Stylebender” dealt with the devastating defeat with a lot of class and composure.

Adesanya was a heavy favorite coming into Sydney, Australia against Strickland but was never able to get out of first gear against the stylistically tricky Strickland. He’d end up losing their fight via unanimous decision with 49–46 scores on all three judges’ cards.

The first episode of Roku’s Fight Inc. Inside The UFC included some behind the scenes moments following the fight, including Adesanya in his locker room being consoled by his family.

“You are still the champ,” his mother Taiwo Adesanya said, giving her son a hug. “If you put your gloves down today, you are set for life. So don’t let anything bother you, okay?”

“It’s a good story for [Strickland], I’m proud of him,” Adesanya told his father Oluwafemi. “But I’m gonna get him. We’ll get him back, okay? I promise.”

“We had an off night,” Izzy’s head coach Eugene Bareman said, consoling his fighter. “Couldn’t find what we wanted but we will find it again.”

As Adesanya left the arena, cameras captured Dana White checking in with the former middleweight champion, asking if he was okay. Adesanya sighed before asking for the cameras surrounding him to pause for a moment.

“Thank you for the opportunity,” he told White in a shot taken later. “Thanks for making that fight happen. Again, it doesn’t matter. Even if it’s his night, it doesn’t matter, it’s still history. It’s a good story for him, it’s a good story for America. It is what it is, that’s the game.”

Israel Adesanya hasn’t fought since that fateful night in September 2023. “The Last Stylebender” declared he was taking some time off to re-center and refocus, and while he’s back in the gym and training we still don’t know when his next fight will be.

The UFC returns to Australia with a UFC 305 show in Perth on August 18th. Will this be when he faces Dricus Du Plessis, the current 185 pound champion who defeated Sean Strickland at the start of 2024? Nothing is for certain, but that’s reportedly when the UFC has Israel penciled in. We’ll keep you updated as that date approaches.

UFC Fight Night: Weidman v Silva
Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Bruno Silva won’t have a loss on his record erased after an appeal to have the result in his fight against Chris Weidman overturned was denied by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board.

Silva’s manager Bernardo Serale told MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz about the results of the appeal on Sunday after the commission informed them of the decision.

The Brazilian sought to have the technical decision overturned after a series of eye pokes played a part in the outcome of the fight at UFC Atlantic City. The fight initially ended via TKO after Weidman delivered a barrage of punches when Silva dropped to the canvas during an exchange on the feet.

Replays showed that a pair of eye pokes actually caused Silva to turn around and fall to the canvas in pain from the fouls but referee Gary Copeland didn’t realize what happened until it was already too late.

After reviewing the footage cage side, officials decided to turn to the judges’ scorecards to decide the fight rather than declare a no contest due to the eye pokes leading to the stoppage. With Weidman ahead on all the cards, he was declared the winner by technical decision.

An irate Silva filed the appeal hoping the commission would overturn the result of the fight to a no contest due to the illegal eye pokes, which directly led to the stoppage in the third round.

“I thought the referee was stopping it because of my eye, but then I saw [Weidman] celebrating,” Silva told MMA Fighting in March. “I was like, ‘No f*cking way this motherf*cker knocked me out. I was never knocked out in my career. I went back up so angry, telling the referee to look at the big screen. I wanted to beat him up, but I knew that would f*cK my career. I had to control myself there.”

Despite his feelings about the decision, the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board ultimately sided with the result determined that night in Atlantic City so the loss on Silva’s record still stands.
